This year has been one of the most chaotic election seasons in American history, and it’s easy to get caught up in everything that’s going on, from President Biden dropping out of the race to Kamala Harris’ coconut tree meme taking the internet by storm to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump to JD Vance’s “childless cat-loving woman” comments going viral.1.
“My 25-year-old niece and others her age have fewer rights today than I did when I was their age. They now live in certain states and don’t have access to the same type of reproductive health care that I enjoyed in all 50 states. This election is about women. Never underestimate the power of women. Ever.”2.
“We will not let Project 2025 see the light of day. We also need to focus on the economy. Too many people have been struggling to make ends meet for too long. Why send taxpayer money overseas when so many are struggling at home? You can’t save everyone, but you can definitely save your country.”3.
“I want common sense gun control (an assault weapons ban).”4.
“Separate church and state as taught by the Constitution and our Founding Fathers. Restrain an unconstitutional Supreme Court that has ruled the President immune and above the law. Prevent a convicted liar and felon from regaining power!”5.
“As an atheist and a woman, I am horrified by MAGA and their hate. This country is for everyone, not just old, rich white men. The Religious Right is a real threat to those who are different in this country. I love my gay brothers and sisters and all transgender people and I want to see them protected, not prosecuted.”6.
“Climate change. It’s an existential threat not just to America but to the entire world. We need to mitigate the impacts we’re already seeing, invest more in strategies to dramatically reduce our carbon emissions, and protect our livable planet.”7.
“Healthcare. The United States spends more on health care than any other developed country, yet the results are terrible. Life expectancy is falling, maternal mortality rates are rising, and drug overdose deaths are devastating communities. Racial and income inequalities are worsening. Fundamental changes are needed in every part of our health care system, from funding to the workforce to the physical buildings where services are delivered.”8.
“We will continue the student loan forgiveness program.”9.
“Women’s rights are paramount in my heart. The idea that our country is going backwards and strengthening patriarchy is terrifying to me. As long as the Republican Party’s policies prioritize hatred and control over the rights of more than half of our people, I will not be voting Republican.”10.
“The economy and corporate greed. Food is a necessity and has no place in greedflation. Lower food prices drastically, no one can survive!”11.
“When I vote, I think about a few things: Will social welfare programs be funded? Will we stand up to other countries that threaten other nations? Will we strengthen women’s rights? Will we strengthen voting rights? Will affirmative action protections be preserved? Will Social Security be restructured and fully funded? Will the Supreme Court be overseen and life membership abolished? Will democracy be preserved?”12.
“Project 2025 would essentially dismantle or dismantle agencies like the EPA, FDA, FBI, Department of Education, and turn them into one-party playgrounds. Trump literally hired the guys who wrote Project 2025. It will be a continuation of the disenfranchisement of women, people of color, and LGBTQ people. And not just disenfranchisement, it will lead to life-and-death situations. It will be policies that allow discriminatory behavior while further ‘othering’ and stigmatizing people. We’ve always been here, we’re Americans too!”13.
“Housing. Americans need and have a right to safe, decent, affordable housing that is located within reasonable access to jobs, health care, grocery stores and other basic services. This is becoming unacceptably hard to find for many.”14.
“I care about education, women’s rights and the economy. We need to stop giving so many tax breaks to the wealthy. The poor and average Americans are suffering right now from inflation. I understand the importance of providing aid abroad, but what about our homeless people? We need a comprehensive plan to reallocate funds to alleviate this problem.”15.
“We will defend American democracy, which is based on credible elections, peaceful transitions of power, and respect for justice. We must maintain checks and balances between the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government.”16.
“Bringing our country together, not the us-versus-them mentality that Trump promotes. In the old days, we came together to help each other. It didn’t matter who was on which side. Many of us still do, despite the MAGA claims. ‘We’re right and you’re wrong’ denies the existence of compromise or unity. We are stronger than I am.”17.
“I want to see a world where children can go to school without the fear of being shot. A world where after-school programs and free lunches for low-income kids aren’t threatened because they’re not a priority for some politician. A world where queer students can focus on their studies without facing discrimination from school authorities or the government.”18.
“As a senior citizen who has worked for years to earn my retirement and Social Security benefits, I need someone who understands and cares about me, not someone who is only interested in making billionaires even wealthier.”19.
And finally, “Either we remain a democracy or we become a Christian fascist dictatorship. If we cannot remain a secular democracy, then nothing else matters much.”
