Longevity medical drama Grey’s Anatomy The show has cast an actor to play a gay hospital chaplain.
The show first aired in 2005, and the roster of characters admitted to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital took a slightly gay tack with Michael Thomas Grant set to play James, an Anglican priest. TV Line.
According to ABC’s character description, Grant is “a Grey Sloan [its] An openly gay chaplain, he cares for his young patients as they are special, and his warmth, training and spirituality help him remain calm and confident in any situation.
“In his personal life, James is at a crossroads where he is embracing love and taking a leap of faith.”

The introduction of the new gay character was first reported in July, but the addition comes at a time when queer staff at the hospital have begun to disappear.
Jake Borelli has played gay Dr. Levi Schmidt since 2017, but the chief resident is set to leave Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital (and the show) in the upcoming 21st season. In 2018, the character became one half of the medical drama’s first gay couple, with Dr. Niko Kim (Alex Landi) as the other half.
Season 21 will see the introduction of Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) in a more prominent role after she became “part-time” in Season 19. She has been the series’ lead character since the first episode.
