Have you ever felt stuck? Not dramatically stuck. There is no quicksand attached.
That strange feeling that even though life is moving, it seems to have stopped for some reason.
Maybe the job isn’t quite right for you. Maybe you feel that the relationship is incomplete. Perhaps your bank account isn’t aligned with your vision board.
Or maybe everything seems fine on paper, but something keeps whispering in your heart.
“There has to be more than this.”
If this feeling sounds familiar, welcome to the club. The number of members is surprisingly large.
The decision to “explore your life’s purpose” often begins with honest questions about your values, dreams, growth, and what truly brings meaning to your daily life.
Why is it important to explore your life’s purpose?
Most people spend a lot of time thinking about things they don’t want.
They don’t want stress. They don’t want to go into debt. They don’t want a toxic relationship.
They don’t want a job that drains their soul faster than a Monday morning staff meeting.
But even fewer people take the time to clearly understand what they really want.
That’s where the purpose begins. There is no answer. I have a question.
Imagine a life without limits
Tomorrow morning, you wake up and realize you’ve won a crazy lottery jackpot.
That’s a lot of money for financial advisors. What will change? Do you want to continue working? Do you want to travel the world? Do you want to start a business? Would you like to spend more time with your family? Write a book?
Do you want to open an animal shelter? Want to plant the world’s most ambitious garden?
Take a moment and really imagine it. It’s not the fantasy version that people seem to want.
Something that makes your heart lean forward a little.
important questions
Pick up your notebook. It’s a legal pad. The back of an old receipt.
Next, take a few minutes to think about the following questions.
• What am I most passionate about?
• What makes you excited to wake up on a Saturday morning?
• What have I always wanted to experience?
• What have I always wanted to learn?
• What parts of me still need healing?
• What impact do I want to make on the world?
• Am I living according to my values?
• If not, what’s stopping you?
Don’t answer the way you think. Please answer honestly.
This exercise is not for neighbors.
Not for social media.
Not for some imaginary committee that criticizes every decision you make in life.
Next, make a list of the most important things in your life.
Whatever is on your list. Then rank them.
This part may feel surprisingly uncomfortable. Because priorities reveal the truth. And sometimes those truths show a gap between the life we live and the life we want.
And awareness is the beginning of change.
Create a personal purpose statement
After reflecting on your answer, complete the following sentences.
“My purpose in life is…”
Then I’ll write. Don’t overthink it. Please do not edit. Don’t try to sound smart.
You can also fill half a page.
Some people find clarity right away. Others need time.
Both are completely normal.
How can I leave the world better?
When you’re done, answer one final question.
“I will make the world a better place by doing this…”
The answer doesn’t have to be grand. Not everyone intends to change the world. But anyone can change someone’s world.
Small acts create big ripples.
Never underestimate it.
final thoughts
When people search for their life’s purpose, they often look for one big answer.
In reality, purpose is often revealed piecemeal.
By paying attention to what keeps calling your name.
The goal is not perfection.
To build a life that is more and more unique to you.
And sometimes, after enough reflection, enough honesty, and enough courage, great things happen.
The road ahead becomes a little clearer. It’s not because life suddenly gets easier. Because I finally remembered who was walking.
Stay grounded, keep growing, and look past the nonsense a little bit…
