barbecue
Enjoy a classic atmosphere with a BBQ in your backyard. Start by curating your menu with easy proteins and side dishes you can throw on the grill (hamburgers, hot dogs, chopped veggies, corn, etc.). Next, gather your grilling tools and essentials. We like the Williams Sonoma grilling tool set for basic needs. Just put your favorite drink in the cooler with ice and you’re good to go at night.
For a personal touch, I love the traditional barbecue gingham pattern that can be expressed on plates, tablecloths, and other decorations. I grew up playing cornhole at summer get-togethers, so it’s always a beloved element, especially when guests want food.

campfire s’mores
Roasting marshmallows around a bonfire is one of the most exciting activities of the season. Make your space cozy by providing a luxurious throw for your family and guests on cold nights when you’ll be crowded around the fire pit. Of course you need s’mores sticks, but I love organizing little stations to put the s’mores ingredients (chocolate, marshmallows, graham crackers). That way, your guests know where to go right away and can easily refill. My other pro tip is to keep mosquito spray on hand so you don’t have to cut your night short.

outdoor italian
As an Italian-American, my hosting go-to has always been European-influenced. This theme can be carried out with a quality linen tablecloth and fluted taper candles that light and spread across the tablescape. Add solar outdoor lights to your patio to transform the space, and set your food on wooden tableware for a truly Italian feel. My recommendation is to add fresh herbs like rosemary to the table to really set the theme. Possible menu options include a Negroni or Aperol spritz, Caprese salad, gnocchi, protein (shrimp, branzino, steak, etc.), and gelato or tiramisu for dessert.

poolside brunch
Poolside brunch is so easy to create since you already have a gorgeous backdrop. All you need is shade (and therefore umbrellas) for your guests, comfortable seating, and the right service elements. Mimosas are the number one menu item, already prepared in champagne flutes, as well as pitchers and coffee makers for blended juices. Fresh fruit is usually harvested upon arrival, so be sure to have a pre-cut platter.

outdoor movie night
If you have a neutral wall or part of your home that would be perfect for a projector, host your movie night outdoors. Stream from your laptop while your guests sit in comfortable beanbag chairs or lawn chairs with pillows. We also provide blankets if it gets cold overnight. Required foods include popcorn (you can also get some cute ones) red and white popcorn container), candy, and soft drinks. If your backyard area is dimly lit, it’s a good idea to purchase pathway lighting so you can move freely throughout the movie.

garden tea party
Looking for an elegant celebration? Invest in a garden tea party for your closest friends. Of course, you’ll need to collect some great teacups and statement teapots that you can offer to your guests. A tiered stand will have finger foods spread across the table for people to nibble on (think cucumber sandwiches and scones). Purchase an assortment of tea bags to choose from depending on your guests’ preferences. You can also enforce a more formal dress code to look better. Another pro tip: Make your event invitations mimic the colors of your tablescape to tie everything together nicely.
