Roy Rogers drinks are refreshing classic mocktails. If you love Shirley Temple, you’ll love this recipe.
Similar to Shirley Temple, it’s much more fun to order a drink named after a famous actor than a basic Coke with grenadine. Roy Rogers, known as the King of the Cowboys, called this one of his favorite drinks. Roy Rogers Mocktail is a non-alcoholic mixed drink that tastes like Cherry Coke.

Roy Rogers Drinks – A Brief History
The Roy Rogers drink has traditionally been a non-alcoholic drink, the kind of drink you might order at an old-fashioned soda shop.
The famous mocktail is named after Roy Rogers, who starred in westerns and musical cowboy films in the 1940s and 1950s. Roy Rogers didn’t drink, so it’s no wonder there was a soda drink named after him.
The drink originally became famous at soda shops in the 1950s, and eventually became the iconic mocktail you order when you want a fun non-alcoholic beverage.
Like Shirley Temple, it’s a fun drink to order to feel fancy (my 5 and 8 year old daughters love drinking it at restaurants!). Let’s immerse ourselves in luxury!
What’s in Roy Rogers’ drink?
- cola – I used Coca-Cola because it is a classic and very delicious. You can also choose unsweetened or organic cola depending on your preference.
- grenadine syrup – Grenadine syrup is available in many stores. There’s also an easy recipe for making your own grenadine syrup (it’s made with bright red pomegranate juice).
- maraschino cherry – A must-see! Use one or several.
- ice cube Pebbles or crushed ice would be perfect.
The best glassware options to serve Roy Rogers are:collins glass Or a highball glass. I also love using glass straw For my homemade drink.

How Roy Rogers mixes
If you want it super sweet, fill the cup with ice and add 0.5 oz of grenadine to 1 oz.
Pour cola to finish. Stir gently with a straw to mix.
Decorate with a nice bright red maraschino cherry We’re done here. enjoy!

tips on how to make
- add lime For a more balanced version, add just half an ounce of grenadine and the juice of half a lime. This will balance the sweetness and sourness and add a little more acidity.
- fresh mint Add fresh mint as a garnish to enhance the sensory experience of this soda drink.
- roy rogers cocktail If you want to make this into a cocktail, leave out the lime and add 2 ounces of dark rum, whiskey, or vodka. You can use a shot of your favorite alcohol. Adding a shot of vodka may not be approved by Roy Rogers himself, but we don’t judge.
- organic cola If you want a healthier version with less sugar, try cola instead of a prebiotic drink like Olipop or Poppy.
