If you love pizza as much as we do, you need to try our deep dish pizza recipes. This deep dish pizza recipe is everything I love about pizza with a thick crust. This pizza is baked in a square baking dish and I like to cut the pizza into small squares. The layers of pizza sauce, cheese and toppings melt together for the perfect bit.

This is not a Chicago style pizza, but rather a Detroit style pizza or a Sicilian style pizza.

This pizza features a thick, rectangular crust with crisp edges and soft interiors. The dough is stretched out and tucked into a well-oiled square or rectangular pot to create a caramelized, cheesy crust.

If you want this deep-dish pizza to look like a real Detroit-style pizza, we recommend placing the sauce on top of cheese.

Add oil to the bottom of the bread and spread the cheese over the edge of the dough so that it touches the bread. This creates a crisp, crisp edge to pizza that reminds you of childhood Pizza Hut Thick crust pizza (very good!).

When it comes to sauces, try homemade pizza sauce or choose the store where you purchased it. But this is kind of pizza you might want to dip in more sauce. If you love farms, try our homemade ranch dressing.

The pizza may not look big, but I think you can pair this pizza with a nice salad and easily feed it to 4-5 people.

Deep Dish Pizza Ingredients:

  • Active Dry Yeast
  • water
  • All-purpose flour
  • salt
  • olive oil
  • Pizza sauce – Great to make it yourself or buy it in the store
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Toppings – pepperoni, peppers, onions, tomatoes, Italian sausages, mushrooms, spinach – you’ll choose!

If you want to add a teaspoon of oregano to the dough or to have a free sauce, feel free to use it! Another option idea is to grease the oil and add two tablespoons of cornmeal to the bread. This gives the crust a little more texture.

Instructions

In a glass mixing cup or small bowl, stir the water and sugar together. Next, sprinkle the yeast over the water and activate for a few minutes.

In a large bowl, add the flour and salt. Pour yeast water into a bowl and stir until a dough bowl forms. Put the dough onto the surface of the flour and knead it several times to help the dough stick.

Next, place the dough back into the bowl, sprinkle with flour, avoid sticking too much, cover with a kitchen towel, and rise for 30-40 minutes until it has doubled in size.

If your kitchen is cold or drafted (like my winter), you can place the bowl in a slightly warmed oven and rise.

Grease the inside of an 8-inch square pan. Next, put the dough over a lightly floured surface and roll it into a small square. I like the oil on butter here. That’s because I think it makes the bottom and edges of the earth’s crust a little more clear.

Place the dough in a greased pan. Topped with sauce, cheese and toppings. Make sure to sprinkle the cheese all the way to the edge. This will make you touch the bread (this will make it crisper as you bake).

Bake pizza at 400°F for 15-16 minutes. Until the edges turn brown and the cheese melts and is cheerful.

Slice the pizza three times to make nine square pieces.

Tips for making

  • To get that crispy edge, sprinkle cheese all the way to the edge and touch the pot.
  • I like to serve red chili flakes and grated Parmesan cheese as a pizza option topping.
  • This recipe is made for an 8-inch baking pan. You can also use a cast iron frying pan to bake pizza.
