we are not okay. But we will be. We have still not recovered from the shockwaves of last Tuesday. The ground is not solidified yet. The brain has not yet completely returned to its normal state. Bodies tremble, scream, and the wreckage needs to be accounted for.
Let’s wait a moment.
We recently released Black Moon Lilith on the CHANI app. We originally planned on July, but we felt we needed her more in the fall. We wanted to make sure she would help us get through this moment (gesturing roughly in case this worst-case scenario happened). To remind us of our power. To affirm our anger in the face of injustice. Having a context to put yourself in it.
Lilith, Adam’s first wife. Lilith is told that her place is under her husband. Lilith chose self-imposed exile over a life with a man who did not consider her an equal. Realizing that God was involved in this, Lilith uttered the ineffable name of the Saint and left the Garden of Eden forever.
Lilith, for her freedom, not her father’s.
Lilith ends up in a desert cave, a place of meditation, so to speak. Desolate. barren. beautiful. The desert was once the bottom of the ocean. And it is here, at the bottom of where we find ourselves.
I think it is important to take this time to recognize the depths to which we have fallen. As they say in many recovery circles, hitting bottom is a gift. I have nowhere else to go. But go up. It takes one breath, one primal cry, and one brick at a time to rebuild ourselves. Without losing depth.
I think it is Lilith who returns to the Garden of Eden as the serpent who tempts Eve with the apple of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Lilith whispers to us through the ages. It doesn’t know about you. It doesn’t want you all over the place. It only tries to degrade you. Take a bite of an apple. Take this wisdom. Get out of here and find your true self. ”
This is how we save each other and, in turn, ourselves.
We are far from rebirth, but that is not the point of this moment. This moment is meant to help you grope your way. Its belly is on the ground, like a serpent at the bottom of the sea. We tend to our wounds, gather with our loved ones, and dream of feeling full. This moment is a reminder that we are part of a lineage of resistance and recreation that stretches back to, and far beyond, notions of supremacy and domination. Lilith is older than gods, older than gardens, older than time.
So are you.
If you forget this week, please remember that we need you. Your wildness, your energy, your flaws, and your friendships. If you have forgotten at any time this week, read these words again and remember those who have gone before you, those who have walked with you, and those who have come back from the future to guide you, protect you, and prepare you to move forward. Remember that there are countless people who are able to. .
I will try the same.
Never miss a note.
