I have lived in Southern California for the rest of my life, so I know areas like the back of my hand. From the best sandwich shops in San Diego, I’m full of Socal suggestions (competition) To the most attractive hotel in Ladal in West Hollywood (Charlie). Now I’m paying attention to Palm Springs, a desert enclave I’ve been visiting for nearly 20 years. I first started coming to town as a pit stop along the way to participate in the professional tennis tournament BNP Paribas Open in nearby Indian Wells, but soon realized that Palm Springs deserves more than a quick labor.
Tennis was the first to attract me to the area, but many others associate the desert with Coachella, as the famous festival is only 40 minutes from downtown Palm Springs. If you’re always making a beeline for the Imperial Polo Club, you’re seriously missing out on Palm Springs’ exemplary mid-century architecture, tasty dining, great vintage shopping and great hotels.
I tapped to help curate this Palm Springs travel guide Kelly BrownBehind the content creators and interior designers Deeply crazy modern. After moving from New York City to Los Angeles, she bought a villa in Palm Springs and ended up loving it. In addition to sharing some of their favourite spots, Brown provided advice to the packing list. “I don’t want to burn my nose, so I’m looking for a cute town with sneakers to ride my sunset bike, a good book on poolside lounges and a polaroid camera, a cute town, and a small town like a fridge.

Before we dig into specific recommendations, we want to look back at the city’s history. One of my favorites about Palm Springs is its iconic connection to Hollywood. From the 1920s and 1930s, desert oasis has become a fashionable vacation for movie stars looking for relaxation away from the spotlight. Palm Springs became the perfect hideaway as the film studio demanded that the actor remain within two hours of Hollywood, in case they were recalled for a re-shoot. By the 1940s and 1950s, the city had blossomed into a fascinating playground for stars such as Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley.
This period saw the rise of iconic mid-century modern architecture as many celebrities commissioned stylish homes that match the area’s desert landscapes and gorgeous atmosphere. Ratpacks often hosted parties, performed at local venues, and embedded Palm Springs into the lore of classical Hollywood culture. Over time it remained a beloved place for Hollywood’s elite, especially during major events such as the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Palm Springs has also become a popular filming location. Don’t worry about darlingstarring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles is perhaps the most memorable recent film there. Overall, this enduring relationship between Hollywood and Palm Springs helped shape the city’s identity as a stylish place.
Where to stay
I have never been drawn to the vastness of the mega resort. If this sounds like you, let me introduce you Colachia Pencente. This is one of the most attractive and unique hotels I have ever stayed in. I spent a few nights in a Bedouin suite. It features a private patio, wood fireplace, kitchen and, to my surprise, a giant stone tub with a rain shower.
The hotel combines two special characteristics, both of which have a renowned past. On one side of the street, a series of Moroccan-style villas, suites and rooms built by painter Gordon Koots in the 1920s mimics his life in Tanguier. The villa on the other side of the street was more Mediterranean style and owned by silent screen star J. Carroll Naish. I recommend scrolling Photos and descriptions of each room Before you choose your favorites, they are all unique.

“hoodie Typical Palm Springs is a luxury,” Brown said who wears what. It’s not only do you imagine yourself having a good time, but it’s one of those special characteristics. You can imagine staying forever. The perfect mix of style, refinement and comfort. It’s chic and playful. The grounds are great and the food is really good. ”

For a kitschy and colorful themed room Trixie Motel It’s like a Palm Springs version Madonnain San Luis Obispo (but much newer and smaller). Each of the seven rooms and suites at Trixie Motel has a distinct theme. Clockwise from the top left, the image above depicts a bee-inspired honeymoon suite, a heart-centered Heart of Heart Room (right), and a 60s-themed Flower Power Suite. If you ask me, it’s a great place for a Bachelorette trip.

Note: The temperature at the top is usually 30-40ºF cooler than the desert floor and may snow between December and April, so you’ll want to bring layers. The tram and the views above are really difficult to stroll around.
Where to shop
When viewing a vintage selection Mitchell In January, we are pleased to find an impressive mix of high-end designers like Valentino, Pucci, Chanel, Lanvin, Oscar de La Renta, and Givenchy. The store features vintage pieces from the 1960s to the early 2000s, as well as modern designer items. I especially loved dresses, but the store also sells men’s clothing, jewelry, accessories and shoes.
