Like leather boots, down jackets are fashion items that only become relevant when we feel the chilly weather of early autumn, and then become an absolute must-have in our closets every time we want to stay warm and comfortable while prioritizing style. Columbia’s new Amaze Puff collection takes your loyalty to your trusty puff to a whole new height, as your classic puff becomes something you won’t want to take off when you get home every day.

The Amaze Puffs, which were introduced earlier this month in line with the social media buzz, come with a warning label: “Danger, danger of extreme coziness.” What sets it apart is how true it remains to its sartorial sensibilities, while being enhanced with top-of-the-line technology. Back in the day, fall/winter down jackets typically came in a predictable range of colors, from jet black to off-white, with occasional touches of pastel pink, burgundy, and deep green. Colombian Amaze Puffs are not. It comes in 14 different shades (yes, you read that right!). Cher Purple is a nod to the light purple trend seen in the Fall 2025 collections of brands like Prada and Loewe. So are moody, luxurious tobaccos. PS: High gloss and matte options are available to take your customization to the next level.

Founded in 1938, Columbia specializes in outdoor apparel, including best-selling high-performance outerwear, so it’s no surprise that the Amaze Puff range comes with plenty of bells and whistles. Omni-Shield technology protects the surface of each coat from moisture and dirt. Internal straps (removable with clips) allow for backpack-style carrying in case of overheating. Thanks to its 650 fill power down (optimal warmth-to-weight ratio), thumbhole cuffs, fleece-lined pockets and hem drawcord, you’ll always be protected from the cold.

You also get the added benefit of a removable hood, zip or snap closure options, and a silky soft fabric that compresses instantly when pressed, while simultaneously rising up and quickly retaining its original shape. Another bonus: For those who prefer a cropped silhouette in a puffer jacket, look no further than the waist-length Columbia Amaze Puff. However, this collection also has mid-length, long-length, and even vest options. It retains its impressive quality while offering a variety of styling opportunities to suit your needs and tastes this season.

We’ll help you look your best this season while protecting you from wind, snow, rain, hail, and everything in between.

I personally had the opportunity to test the Columbia Women’s Amaze Puff Hooded Jacket firsthand in the rain forest. The first thing that struck me was how vibrant and saturated the colors were. It’s enough to elevate your fall capsule wardrobe with straight-leg jeans and a chunky sweater. Regarding the latter, I didn’t have to worry about the Columbia coat being bulky or stuffy even when I wore a knit underneath.

We also appreciated how the elastic cuffs on this piece fit ideally around your wrist (you can slip your thumb through the thumbhole, also ensuring extra protection from the elements). I haven’t used this feature yet, but it’s still a little too early in the season to protect my hands from harsh temperatures. know We look forward to your continued support this fall and winter.

The author is trying out the Columbia Amaze puff jacket for fall

I tried on the Columbia Women’s Amaze Puff Hooded Jacket for the first time in the shade of the rainforest trees.

WWD/Stacia Datskowska

As a kind of experiment, I poured a cup of water directly onto the surface of the coat, and the water droplets dripped down without penetrating the fabric, which reminded me of a duck (you know, as the famous saying goes, “like water falling off a duck’s back”). It was an amazing sight. I can only imagine how well this coat will perform in future rainstorms.

Even when I was trying on the coat indoors for the purpose of this article, I felt that the down filling kept me warm without breaking a sweat. There was a lot to like about the fleece pockets on the Columbia Women’s Amaze Puff Hooded Jacket (it has a zipper for safe storage of things like keys, ski lift passes, and expensive tubes of lipstick). for Really There’s also an internal chest pocket (also lined with fleece) for storing your precious everyday essentials.

Importantly, the front closure of the jacket has a flap cover to prevent sudden drafts, so even on cold mornings the front of my body did not feel cold around the zipper area of the jacket. If I wanted the coat to look more contoured to my body (especially if I was wearing it with a skinny bottoms style), all I had to do was adjust the drawcord at the hem. Similarly, I find myself removing my drawcord hood more often when A) it’s not necessary weather-wise and B) it gets in the way of my everyday attire.

You better believe that within the next few months, I’ll be completely addicted to Colombian Amaze Puffs. Still not sure if it will fit well into your cold-weather ensemble? Here are two styling suggestions on how to wear it in two different lengths. It’s about leveling up your style while staying comfortable 24/7…at least during the time you can spend wrapped up in the thoughtful embrace of a puffer jacket.
