She’s an icon, she’s a legend, and she’s a moment. She is finally being made into a movie. Warner Bros. has announced a Hello Kitty movie scheduled for release in July 2028.
Warner Bros. used social media to widely announce the news. “hello hollywood,” read the caption For studio social media posts. “Hello Kitty movie will be released in theaters on July 21, 2028! ”
So what can we expect? Warner says:The film marks Hello Kitty’s Hollywood theatrical debut as Hello Kitty and her friends embark on a cinematic adventure that is sure to please audiences of all ages.”

As you can see, the studio is very quiet regarding plot developments and details. However, the fact that this project has been in the works for quite some time gives us confidence that the storyline will flash nicely. Fans were always supposed to experience a Hello Kitty movie. And with the success of Barbie and Mario Bros., Hello Kitty has a good chance of being quite a success at the box office.
The Hollywood Reporter on when the idea for a Hello Kitty movie started floating around reveal,
“Japanese company Sanrio first launched this facility in 1974, and plans to bring Hello Kitty to the big screen have been in the works for a decade. Yuko Shimizu created the iconic character as an anthropomorphic British white cat named Kitty White with a red ribbon. Hello Kitty has spawned numerous animated series and a wide range of product lines.
After news first broke in 2015 that Sanrio was considering a film adaptation, the Hollywood Reporter reported four years later that New Line and Flynn Pictures were considering a film adaptation. We were developing English language features. This is the first time that popular characters such as Hello Kitty, Gudetama, My Melody, and Little Twin Stars have been licensed to a major film studio. ”
