A few weeks ago at a social event, I was reminded that I was already riding the “romantize your life” wave before it became trendy. I’ve always been someone who finds joy in the simple things. I know how to experience even the most mundane tasks through a lens that makes things a little better. This has been my saving grace because it allows me to find solace and satisfaction even in the toughest times. I’m a real “look ahead” kind of woman and a very optimistic person, so I wanted to share some ways I romanticize my life. The actions may be very simple, but they lead to a very joyful way of living, no matter what time of year you’re in.
Reconnect with nature
Now, reconnecting with nature doesn’t mean going on a zip line or doing anything adventurous outside. I’m not that kind of person, lol. But you’ll find me at home or in the park taking walks in the sunshine, reading a book, doing a crossword puzzle, or just listening to music and people watching. Even if we’re only outside for 10-15 minutes, nature has the power to calm us down and reset us. That’s why I’ve always made it a priority to reconnect with nature when life gets a little hectic. Sunshine is so good for the body, and when you combine that with a good book, song, or friend, you’ll feel much more like yourself afterwards.
Going on a solo museum date
I love going to museums. It doesn’t matter what type of museum it is, but I love going because I get to learn about new artists, historical events, how things are made, and more. When I travel, I try to visit at least one. Now, to make the moment even more special, I dress up in a cute outfit, browse the gift shop, and have a meal or drink in the cafe if there is one. It makes for a great experience. And the best part is, many museums are free or very low-cost, so it’s an inexpensive activity.
Make bath time special
For me, bath and shower time is like a ritual. I light candles, put on a playlist, and use a specialty soap or body wash. In my opinion, there is nothing better than a compliment like “you smell nice” so I try to pamper myself during this time. I love small specialty soaps that smell like rose or sandalwood (depending on the season), apply lots of lotions and oils, and mix perfumes and fragrances to create my own scents. I put my phone on DND most of the time so I can have a little peace and quiet. I always feel so good and refreshed afterwards. I know we are busy and in a hurry 99% of the time, but even if you only have a few minutes, using a few fancy products during that time will definitely make you feel much better.
Visit old, independent bookstores
I’ve always loved reading, and while Amazon and Barnes & Noble are always handy when I need to get something fast and cheap, there’s nothing quite like perusing a small local used or second-hand bookshop. There’s a comfortable, unhurried feeling to visiting such a place, like visiting an old friend. Even a 20-30 minute visit is an easy way to slow down and explore in a different way.
Decorate your home with fresh flowers
I’ll scream this until I’m blue in the face: Buy flowers! Sure, it’s really nice to receive flowers from someone, but that doesn’t mean you can’t buy the same for yourself. Having fresh flowers in your home is one of life’s little luxuries that you shouldn’t miss out on. Whether it’s a giant bouquet from a professional florist or $7 roses from the grocery store, you’ll never regret buying fresh flowers.
There are many other ways to romanticize your life, but these are just a few really simple ways that anyone can do.
How do you want to romanticize your life?
