Fresh off leading the New York Knicks to their first NBA championship in 53 years, Finals MVP Jalen Brunson, six-time NBA All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns and head coach Mike Brown stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to celebrate the historic win and reflect on an unforgettable season. The trio received a hero’s welcome as they discussed bringing the Larry O’Brien Trophy back to New York, ending a decades-old title drought. The drought cemented the Knicks’ place in history. Brunson admitted that the feat still feels surreal and shared that the magnitude of the championship hasn’t fully sunk in yet.
Towns reflected on the record-breaking postseason performance and the enthusiastic atmosphere at Madison Square Garden, crediting the fans for helping his team make the playoffs. Meanwhile, Brown said he believed the Knicks had a chance to win from the moment he began evaluating the roster during the head coaching interview process.
The conversation also touched on some light-hearted superstitions about the team’s playoffs. One fan-favorite episode concerns Towns’ fiancée, Jordyn Woods, whose signature handbag became an unlikely lucky charm after the Knicks went undefeated every time they appeared in a game. Brunson also joked that he was initially skeptical of wrestler Danhausen’s so-called “curse-breaking” powers, but eventually came to accept the superstition as his victories piled up.
Fallon revisited Brunson’s incredible 45-point performance in the title game. This feat was previously accomplished only by Michael Jordan in NBA Finals history. The Knicks captain also opened up about the emotional moment he shared with his father and assistant coach Rick Brunson after clinching the championship, saying it was the culmination of years of hard work, sacrifice and childhood dreams.
Another surprising revelation came when Brunson admitted that Justin Bieber’s music continues to be an important part of his pregame ritual. The playlist changes throughout the day, but after Coach Brown’s final pregame speech, Bieber revealed that he always plays on his headphones before taking the court.
The interview also provided a heartwarming moment as Towns reflected on how he honored his late mother throughout his championship journey. He talked about how meaningful it was to return to the program as an NBA champion, recalling the dreams he discussed when he first entered the league all those years ago.
As the conversation concluded, the players reflected on the team’s biggest lesson: success is possible no matter where you come from.
Brunson emphasized that all the players on the roster have taken different paths to the NBA and urged young fans to believe in themselves, embrace hard work and focus on the little things that make big dreams possible. Part celebration, part reflection, part comedy, the appearance showed why the Knicks have become one of the most beloved teams in franchise history.
