teen vogue We gave our readers an exclusive look at SZA and Kiki Palmer’s new movie. One of Them Days. Reporter Brando Victorian spoke with the cast, producer Issa Rae and writer Syreeta Singleton during an exclusive set visit to the comedy, which is scheduled to hit theaters on January 17, 2025.

Here are highlights from their conversation:

  • About SZA’s acting debut: “It was creepy when I was on camera, but Keke literally guided me,” the singer told Teen Vogue.
  • Kiki Palmer talks about working with SZA PostSNL: “I should have known. For example, I saw GIFs being used every day, and that was the beginning of our budding platonic romance, which continued to develop over time.” Palmer continues. “It was an incredible journey to have the opportunity to make this film with her.”
  • Syreeta Singleton praises SZA’s casting as Alyssa. “She’s so smart, so funny, so deep, and has such an art girl vibe. It just feels perfect, and when you look at it [her and Keke] Both are the perfect yin and yang. They play off each other very well. ”
  • Issa Rae makes a call one of those days “A unique woman” Friday:” “[Singleton] She is one of my favorite authors because she expresses black female friendships so naturally. [in her work]” says Issa Rae, the film’s producer. “She has a way of being able to create people that I know, that I know well, and put them in situations that me and my friends have gone through. And they’re just so realistic. As soon as I read about this project, I thought, “Oh, this is like a Friday for women.” But it’s its own unique story and stands on its own. ”
  • Issa Rae talks about movies coming out in theaters: “I think theater is something very special and theater itself is a marketing tool,” Ray says. “Going to the theater is a special event. It’s also a social event. You want to feel like you’re doing it for a reason, and you want assurance that it’s going to turn out well.” It shows the belief in
  • Kiki Palmer unveils costume homage FridayHe praised costume designer Cairo Coates. “This kind of homage to Craig and Friday. She’s doing a lot of fun things like that, because there’s an element of nostalgia to this, but it still has its own modern flair.” says Palmer of Coates’ work. On-screen and off-screen fans. “I wore it [costume] I used to go out when I finished work early,” she confesses. “I went to their closet and said, ‘Hey, hook me up!'” And I was good. I also made a wig from my hair. ”
  • KiKi Palmer on black women getting to play buddy comedies like Will Smith and Eddie Murphy: “That was a dream come true, because I’m trying to make people think that women can do that too,” Palmer says. Since the late 2010s, there have been very few female buddy movies, and even fewer buddy movies with black women. “We’re not trying to force it. It’s like, ‘Give us a chance to show you what we can do.'” I had a chance, but I also felt like it was a great opportunity for people to allow women to have really compelling characters because I could also do some action and drama and finally slay the dragon.” It is only given to men,” Palmer added. “I think it’s the same thing. We’re not afraid to be stupid, we’re not afraid to be a little mean, we’re not afraid to be a little tough when we need to be. And that’s what we see I think it’s a worthwhile range.”

After her boyfriend steals her rent, Alyssa and her roommate race against time to avoid eviction and preserve their friendship.
