I’m not a morning person. I could put that in my obituary. I would rather have a 10pm yoga class and a late night meeting than do anything in the morning. I’ve been saying this for ages. But at the end of the day, work doesn’t care, and neither does the spinning earth and the economy. So we need to improve our morning habits and make the most of our mornings.
Instead of spending your mornings complaining (like I did), it’s time to inject some positive energy into your mornings. If even a notorious morning grump like me can ring in the new year with positive morning habits and vibes, then so can you.
Here are some of my favorite morning routines to start each day on a good note.
8 Simple Morning Habits for a Better Day
1. Dry brush the body.
It may seem like a goop fad, but dry brushing has been part of Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. Every morning, I scrub away sleepiness and dry skin. Nothing is more invigorating after a painful alarm clock rings at an ominous hour. There’s no medical evidence to support this, but… It is believed to help It stimulates the lymphatic system, increases circulation and energy, and maybe even helps break down cellulite. Hopefully, it works. Now, let’s scrub.
2. Write in your manifestation journal.
My love for gratitude journals is well-known, but after the year we’ve all been through, why not try to manifest some magic into the year ahead? There are a few things a manifestation journal can do for you. First, it’s muscle memory: if you write “I’m going to buy a house by fall” 35 times, it imprints that thought into your subconscious. Intention I’ll buy a house by fall.
Then there’s the Law of Attraction, the belief that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into your life. If you can put your wants and needs into words and repeat those words across a page, there’s a good chance those thoughts will take root in every corner of your brain. Why not give it a try?
3. Ditch the alarm on your phone.
…or a high-pitched, warning, uh-oh alarm. Nobody wants to be startled awake. Instead, start your day slowly with soothing sunrise lighting and a gentle alarm. It’s a more natural way to wake up if you don’t have to work or take care of kids.

A surefire way to turn a good morning into a bad, bad, bad, awful day is to toss and turn, open your eyes, and scroll, scroll, scroll.
Nobody Loves Me The New York Times For me, I know I don’t need to open any apps before 8am. Same goes for email and Instagram.
