Gay Green Party leader Zach Polanski has publicly admitted that he has never dated Labor Health Secretary Wes Streeting.

His joke was in response to a question. Posts shared by Green supporters on X May 13th. Lawyer Dr Ian D’Arcy said the only thing that could bring Polanski down is “if it turns out he was dating Wes Streeting,” adding: “There’s no going back from there.”

Polanski himself admitted that he and Streeting, who is also gay, had never been in a romantic relationship.

“I’ve said I’ve made mistakes and no one is perfect, but you really don’t have to worry about this,” he replied.

Polanski has recently been making waves in British politics as a member of the Green Party.

In March this year, speaking at the launch of TransActual’s latest report on the state of transgender people in the UK, he spoke candidly about understanding what it feels like to feel excluded in society.

Mr Polanski, a passionate transgender supporter, spoke to attendees about TransActual’s findings and the broader state of transphobia in the UK, while also saying that different communities are stronger when they come together.

“I often talk in the media about how I grew up in Section 28, but as a gay man and a Jewish man, I know what it’s like to be marginalized,” he said.

“I don’t claim to know what it’s like to be a transgender person, especially transgender people of color, and the many oppressions they face in society.

“Together, we can become stronger.”

“But I think anyone who has ever felt like they don’t belong, who has ever felt like they don’t belong, or who’s ever felt like they’re not included, or even not feeling included, but actually not being included, because just because people or one person decides not to include you, I think you can share that struggle and empathize and understand that struggle.

“So what do you know?” he continued. “That’s true of almost everyone in this country.

“I think there are very few people who haven’t had, or have always had, the experience of always being there, always being welcomed into a room, always knowing that this room is meant for you.”

He continued: “But it means that together we are so much stronger and so much more powerful. Much more powerful than we sometimes feel.”

Polanski added that when people come together across party lines and campaigns, “there is nothing that can stop us.”

“When they come for one of us, they come for all of us. There is nothing more powerful than our unity.”
