The scholarship aimed at supporting women, transgender and non-binary people has announced that she will become a music producer and sound engineer.

The Sophie Scholarship Fund was launched as a collaboration between nonprofit organizations I’m moving the needleIt functions to increase fairness and inclusion in the music recording industry, msmsmsm forevera platform to celebrate Sophie’s heritage.

When the scholarship was announced, a post on my MSMSMSM Forever Instagram account said: “Alongside @wearemovingtheeneedle, I am proud to be able to present this scholarship fund in Sophie’s name. Sophie was passionate about the future of music.

One-time scholarship awards ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 Scholarship and Grant Programs.

The funding is open to female, trans, non-binary music creators who have been registered or registered with degrees in music production, audio engineering, sound technology and other related fields during the 2025-2026 academic year.

The scholarship aims to bridge the gender gap in the music industry and provide “meaning support” to those looking to enter the sector.

Such support includes assistance with tuition and fees and course-related expenses.

The applicant must be a US-based citizen and the application is accepted until April 27th.

DJ Sophie, a music producer and also known as Sophie Xeon, tragically passed away at the age of 34 in January 2021 after falling from the roof of Athens, Greece and trying to see the full moon.

Throughout her career, Sophie is known for her boundary-hitting approach to electronic music production, and has become an early pioneer in the exaggerated pop genre, often referred to as hyperpop.

She worked with some of the music industry’s biggest stars, including Madonna, Lady Gaga and Rihanna, and was an early supporter and collaborator of German trance pop star Kim Petras.

Perhaps Sophie’s most famous collaboration is with Charli XCX, working on Charli’s 2016 EP. vroom vroom.

EP – further leaning towards experimental pop, moving away from the mainstream pop of Charli XCX’s sophomore records Suction cup – Charli’s career has taken off in a new direction. It ultimately led to her most critically acclaimed work, including the 2024 year definition Blade.

Above BladeCharli XCX paid tribute to her collaborator and friend Sophie for the song “That’s why I.”referring to Sophie’s 2017 song “Cry.”

“It’s OK to Cry” was taken from Sophie’s 2018 debut record All pearl ancid oilwas nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Dance/Electronic Album category.

In a sweet, full circle moment, the latest winner of the best dance/electronic album Grammy Awards is Charli XCX’s Blade.

Since her death, Sophie’s legacy has remained engraved in pop music, with musicians including Caroline Polacek and St. Vincent paying tribute to her with her songs.

SophieThe British Music Creator’s posthumous album was released last September, featuring collaborations with Petras, Hannah Diamond, Liz and Jozzy.

November, transformeran album has been released that promotes trance and non-binary awareness featuring Sam Smith, Sade and Hunter Schaefer. The album first began to take shape after Sophie passed away.
