Sam Smith recalls having liposuction at age 13

Sam Smith has revealed he had liposuction at just 13 years old.

Sam — who uses they/them pronouns — revisited the subject this week on Penn Badgley’s show pod crash podcastwhen asked about some of the problems he experienced while growing up. Sam said, “For me, it’s always been weight.”

The “Stay With Me” singer, who first came out to friends at age 10, said: “My queerness was something I could manage and understand, but my weight as a child was the hardest thing for me.”

Sam said she decided to get lipo injections after attending a “brutal” Catholic school and being bullied for having “growing breasts”. Sam said: “There were a lot of reasons, but mainly because I got teased so much that I couldn’t go swimming at school. Getting changed in the locker room was hell. So I had liposuction when I was 13.”

Sam said her mother, a bank employee, and her father, who stayed at home, were both “supportive” of the decision. “They were very supportive of everything because they understood how numb it was to me.”

“We struggled with food and other things,” Sam continued. “The liposuction went well, but it was also a nightmare because I was given a bra-like bandage, which I was only supposed to wear for a month…[but] I wore this bandage for almost a year. ”

“If I had a bandage on, I would be at the front of the lunch line. So I had this bandage on for almost a year, and I was like, ‘Oh, don’t come near me,'” Sam laughed, feigning pain. “Then I got there first at lunch and ate more and ate more and ate more…so the surgery didn’t really work out because I just love food.”

First, Sam spoke They spoke about their experience with liposuction in a 2019 interview with Jameela Jamil, explaining how they ended up undergoing liposuction after doctors discovered their bodies were storing excessive amounts of estrogen in their breasts.

“I totally had boobs,” Sam said. said. “I think I was very happy at the time. Nothing really changed. I didn’t understand my relationship with food, so I think I put the weight back on after about two weeks.”

As an adult and a public figure, Sam has learned to embrace his body — like when he posted a shirtless selfie on Instagram in 2019. In the post, Sam wrote, “If I’ve ever had a photo shoot in the past wearing at least a t-shirt, I would have fasted for weeks beforehand, picked and poked each time I took the photo, and just pulled it down normally.” But then they decided to fight back. Take back my body and stop trying to change these breasts, this waist, these curves that my mother and father created and loved unconditionally.

I love it, Sam! ❤️
