Sabrina Carpenter releases new album Short and sweet The latest music video for the album’s new single, “Taste,” was also released today.
In the new music video, Carpenter Wednesday The two compete for the lead actress Jenna Ortega’s boyfriend, played by actor Rohan Campbell.
The video begins with a warning to viewers of “explicit content” and “brutal violence,” before showing several different weapons – and judging by the lyrics, Carpenter appears to be choosing what appears to be a machete to go after her ex-boyfriend.
“I heard you guys got back together // And if it’s true, you just gotta taste me when he’s kissing you,” Carpenter sings.
The video tells the hilariously brutal story of Carpenter thinking he’s got Ortega down, but Ortega has his way, shooting Carpenter with a shotgun, sending the pop singer flying through a window and impaling him on a white picket fence.
However, Carpenter plunged a knife into Ortega’s eye in revenge (said to be brutal, indeed).
In order to get Carpenter “out of the way,” Ortega uses a voodoo doll to set her on fire, chop off her arms, and electrocute her, all while the two girls find new and innovative ways to kill each other.
The literal depiction of the aforementioned lyrics is evident when Ortega begins to kiss Campbell, and then suddenly realizes that Campbell is kissing Carpenter, because Ortega is “tasting” Campbell.
However, despite the gratuitous violence at the beginning, it all has a happy ending, as the two girls attend Campbell’s funeral and leave together, complaining about each other’s ex-lovers.
The video was directed by Dave Myers, who also directed the “Espresso” music video. Previous behind-the-scenes photos of Ortega and Carpenter can be found here. Hinting at the storyline Inspired by the 1992 Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn cult classic Death Becomes Her.
“Taste” is one of 12 tracks on Carpenter’s new album, which also includes the singles “Please Please Please” and “Espresso.”
