William Paul, the son of Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), has apologized to Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) for allegedly telling him he “hates Jews and gays” during a drunken argument at a bar in Washington.
“I had too much to drink last night and said something that didn’t express who I really am,” Paul I wrote in a May 13 social media post. “I’m sorry, but today I need help with my drinking problem.”
The confrontation reportedly occurred late on May 12 at the Tune Inn Restaurant and Bar, a popular Capitol Hill watering hole frequented by Congressional staff, lobbyists and members of Congress.
Lawler told reporters at a press conference at the Capitol that Paul approached him drunk while he was having dinner with Politico reporter Reece Gorman. Notus.
Lawler said Paul interrupted the conversation and said he would hold “your people” accountable if Rand Paul’s political ally, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.), loses the May 19 primary to a pro-Trump challenger.
Massey has drawn attacks from groups aligned with President Donald Trump for opposing some of the president’s legislative priorities and pushing for the release of the Epstein files. He has also faced criticism from pro-Israel groups over his vote against symbolic policies supporting the Israeli government.
According to guardianLawler told reporters that after Paul accused him of being Jewish, he replied that he was Irish, Italian and Catholic.
“And he goes, ‘Oh, yeah, I’m sorry for accusing you of that,'” Lawlor said.
Lawler said Paul then began a roughly 10-minute rant about Israel, Jews and billionaire donor Paul Singer, accusing Jews of controlling political events and bringing up “classic anti-Semitic tropes.”
“At some point, [he] “He said he hates Jews and he hates gays and he doesn’t care if they die. And I think that’s very disgusting,” Lawler said.
In a first-hand account published by NotusGorman reported that Paul called Jews “anti-American” and accused Lawler and his “Jewish supporters” of serving Israel more than the United States.
“Paul Singer is serving the interests of Israel, not the interests of the United States,” Paul is said to have said, referring to Republican mega-donors helping fund the anti-Massey super PAC.
The singer, who is Jewish, has previously donated to LGBTQ causes and was the focus of a recent controversial pro-Massie ad attacking Massie challenger Eddie Gullane over Singer’s support for LGBTQ rights.
Paul also told Lawler, “We need to see more of Tucker Carlson.” He reportedly claimed that Massey and Sen. Paul were the only members of Congress who truly cared about the United States.
Lawler said she eventually tried to end the conversation by saying to Paul,
Paul put his finger in Lawler’s face and said, “Mike Lawler, don’t put a word in my mouth, I never said that.”
He also criticized Lawler, who supported efforts to increase the cap on salt deductions in last year’s reconciliation bill.
Mr Lawlor said he again asked Paul to leave them alone, at which point Paul pushed him away.
“Did you just give him the middle finger?” Lawler asked.
“Sorry, yes,” Paul replied. “I’m really drunk, so I’m going home now.”
Gorman reported that Paul then paid the bill, knocked over a bar stool and tripped while leaving.
Lawlor later said: new york post Paul blamed Israel for the conflict between the United States and Iran, claiming that the United States was “stealing Iranian land for the Jews and trying to steal the West Bank.”
Lawlor also claimed that Paul said the conflict was “all about gays and Jews, and I hate both of them and I don’t care if they die.”
These statements were not included in Mr. Gorman’s direct talk. Notus A record of the encounter.
