Family, friends, and the LGBTQ+ community are mourning the loss of Marlowe Trotti, a 35-year-old black transgender woman whose body was found in Alexandria, Louisiana, on June 8th.

friends, family And former classmates remember Trotti as a kind-hearted person who could make anyone laugh. One classmate described her as “literally the sweetest person I’ve ever met” in a Facebook comment, while others remembered her constant smile and positive spirit.
Some people who know Trotti refer to her by the pronouns “he/him” on the internet, but in some of her articles, social media profileTrotti was openly female and frequently shared uplifting messages about resilience, honesty, and self-acceptance.
“I am me,” one post read. “I’m not going to pretend to be like everyone else. I don’t want to be like everyone else. And I’m not going to change myself just to fit in.”

High levels of anti-trans violence
Trotti’s death has shocked the trans community, and advocates continue to raise concerns about violence targeting transgender people, particularly Black transgender women. Trotti is the 11th transgender person known to have been murdered in the past three months.
As the murder investigation continues, friends and loved ones are demanding answers, accountability and justice for this woman, who goes beyond being remembered solely for the circumstances of her death.
