So, what is method acting? traditionally It’s about using your own lived experiences to inform how you portray a character’s emotions. However, it has become widely known as an actor taking on a character’s persona for the duration of a project. See: Adrien Brody, Jared Leto, Daniel Day-Lewis, etc.

In a conversation with new york timesKristen was asked if she related to Marlon Brando’s approach to method acting, especially when he pronounced “Krypton” as “Kryptin” in the movie. superman A film about maintaining “artistic independence” while making a “sell-out” film. “This started a lot of things! Performance is inherently vulnerable, which is why it’s so embarrassing and unmanly. Claiming to be the voice of someone else’s ideas isn’t about being pushy,” she continued. “It’s submissive in nature. Until now Have you ever heard of a female actor who was method? ”

Kristen continued, “Men lord it over to maintain themselves. Brando sounds like a hero, right? If a woman did that, it would be different. If she had to do 50 push-ups before her close-up or refuse to say a word a certain way.”

“There’s something that we often do on set before a performance starts. Before we cry in front of the camera, if we can feel like a gorilla showing its vulnerability and pounding its chest, it makes us feel a little less embarrassed. It also feels like what we’re doing is a magic trick, like it’s so impossible that no one else can do it,” she added.

Calling the “Krypton” moment “defensive,” she continued, “I had a conversation recently where I talked about this. I asked my fellow actors: Have you ever met a female actor who was methodical and screamed and needed to get everything done? As soon as I said, ‘Male actor, female actor,’ the reaction was something like, ‘Male actor, female actor.’ Let’s not address the elephant in the room. And he goes, ‘Oh, these actresses are crazy.’ ”

Word of her spread quickly.
