Jonathan Van Ness breaks silence on ‘bittersweet’ Queer Eye end

queer eye Star Jonathan Van Ness said the show’s ending was “bittersweet” and that they had a “mixed relationship” with their casemates.

The 39-year-old hairstylist, podcast host, and television personality was Netflix’s grooming expert. queer eye. Van Ness is non-binary.

final season of queer eyean optimistic show about improving one individual’s life each episode, was overshadowed by casting controversy. The show aired for 10 seasons from 2018 to 2026.

Van Ness was part of the “Fab Five” along with Antoni Porowski, Tan France, Karamo Brown and Bobby Berk. The latter was later replaced by Jeremiah Brent for the final two seasons.

As the final series unfolded, Brown opted out of participating in the press tour. His absence made headlines when he released a statement. He said he “wanted to protect” his “mental health and peace” and was “worried that he would be bullied” if he showed up.

This is the latest in a long timeline of drama between castmates that included Burke’s departure and called into question the real connection between the cast.

Van Ness told the Press Association he has mixed feelings about the show’s ending. They described the conclusion as “bittersweet” and said they were trying to explore “what life has to offer.”

Van Ness said of her fellow casemates, “There are a lot of different relationships, some closer, some not so close.”

“Bittersweet is the best word I can describe.”

“I don’t think that’s a problem either. So, yeah, that’s something we’re looking at.”

“It was an amazing drive. These memories and experiences will be something I will treasure forever. Bittersweet is the best word. I am so grateful.”

“I love making the show and it was so special at such a special time. I’m also ready to experience new things, explore new things, continue to grow and continue to see what life has to offer. So I think bittersweet is the best way to describe it.”

Van Ness’ next endeavor is a stand-up comedy show. hot & healing. They are on a UK tour, starting in London on May 17th. Van Ness will also appear in Nottingham, Bristol, Manchester and Glasgow.

While teasing the show, Van Ness said that the stand-up set would be “much weirder and much meaner” than their set. queer eye work.

They explained the theme of the comedy show as follows:

“What do you think? hot & healing I think this is about what we collectively need to do to get through the chaos that we’re surrounded by right now. In 2024, unfortunately, I ended up appearing in this $220 million pro-Trump ad campaign.

“You can imagine that it was quite shocking for me to have that much motivation and to scare so many people into wanting to vote for Trump. What we are healing from is the violence of the gender binary, misogyny, ageism, and fatphobia.”

They went on to say that the British audience was “the most amazing crowd. Very warm, very involved. Very loud and fun and a really fun show.”

“I’m probably going to apply for asylum as well. Let’s see what happens this week.”
