Sean “Diddy” Combs will be spending the next few years behind the bar. A federal judge in Manhattan cited his long history of abusing women when he was sentenced to the 55-year-old music mogul in prison on Friday for four years and two months.
The sentence discovered that after his conviction in July, the ju apprenticed the charge of transporting a woman across state boundaries for prostitution. He could have been jailed for life as he was acquitted of more serious assault and sex trafficking charges.
Judge’s decision
US District Judge John Cronan revealed that deterrence played a central role in the ruling. “I’m not sure these crimes will never happen again,” the judge said while serving his sentence. In addition to his prison term, Combs was fined $500,000 and ordered to offer five years of supervised release after detention.
Prosecutors have pushed for over 11 years, describing combs in a memorandum of ruling as “not repenting.” His lawyer rebutted, seeking for less than 14 months, a request that he would have been able to walk freely after he was already in work.
Court appeal
During the hearing, the combs were shed tears as his defense team played a 12-minute video aimed at softening his court’s views. The montage featured clips of combs with the kids, providing motivational speeches to students and running marathons to raise funds for their education.
He appeared in court wearing a cream sweater layered over a collared shirt along with dark pants. The attempts to softly image did not shake up the judge who emphasized the seriousness of the crime.

The charges stem from allegations that Combs arranged a drug-fuel sexual encounter. The July trial lasted several weeks and attracted media attention.
The ju judge refused to charges of assault and trafficking, but they convicted him on two counts that unanimously led to him being transported for prostitution.
