Cara Delevingne reflects on her Dark Victoria Secret experience

If you were a teenager during Victoria’s Secret’s heyday, there’s no doubt that you remember the 2012 VS Fashion Show very vividly.

To refresh your memory, the “Angels” that graced the runway in 2012 included Adriana Lima, Miranda Kerr, Candice Swanepoel, Doutzen Kroes, and Behati Prinsloo. And that year’s performers were – wait for it – Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Bruno Mars. Frankly, this sounds like the lineup of a festival I’d pay millions of dollars to attend in 2026.

But despite the star power, one of the most memorable moments of the 2012 show remains the VS runway debut of Cara Delevingne, a 20-year-old British model with bushy eyebrows.

For context, I think most people would agree that she took a walk at Justin Bieber’s gala, although Cara had already gained significant recognition as a model at the time. performance “Beauty and a Beat” at the 2012 VS Fashion Show catapulted her into a new stratosphere of online fame.

This particular photo couldn’t have been leaked to Tumblr in 2012 or 2013. That’s all I can say.

While it may have looked picture perfect from the outside, it turns out that Carla’s breakout moment came at a rather complicated time in her life.

In this week’s episode, please call her dadhost Alex Cooper showed Kara one of her iconic photos from her VS debut and asked her to share some insight into that era. Soon, Kara became shy and uncomfortable. “It’s fun. It felt like I was dressing up,” she said. “But then something dark happened.”

“I wasn’t sober on that show. I don’t want to speak for the other girls in that sense, but it wasn’t a good environment for me personally,” Cara explained. “Modeling has definitely changed the way I look and feel feminine. As a kid, I had short hair. I didn’t like wearing girls’ clothes. It was like I didn’t really like being a girl. So I think in order to be a model, I had to become a girl that I wasn’t.”

Kara currently describes herself as “proud lesbian” But she was closeted in 2012, stating that she felt like she was a “secret lesbian.” “I was gay, [thinking]”Am I the only lesbian who has had sex with Victoria’s Secret?” she said, adding: “I had a great time, but I was very confused.”

Cara, who opened up about her relationship with drugs and alcohol in 2012 and is now sober, said she wasn’t nervous walking the VS runway because she was under the influence of drugs. “It was terrifying,” she said, recalling the time. “When I woke up, I probably had a few shots of whiskey and a Xanax to hit the runway.”

She went on to say: [had] I have a very feminine body…and I don’t have a butt. At that point, I thought, “I’m not a Victoria’s Secret angel, I’m the devil.” I’m not in this! I remember when they asked me to be a part of it. I was like, “I don’t think I’m supposed to be here.” ”

Kara also walked the VS fashion show in 2013. She was also invited to walk in 2016, I refused it.
