Since 1999, the Gotham Film & Media Institute, an organization that seems very committed to the credibility of independent film, has run the Gotham Awards, an annual mandated awards ceremony that highlights the year’s outstanding film and television selections. Until, of course, its smaller and definitely cooler little sister arrives in 2024. Please enter gotham television awardsis new enough to still be forming an identity, but already established enough to keep up the red carpet. And in New York, red carpets are taken as seriously as movie actors are constantly judged by their feeds.
It’s a good thing that smaller red carpets tend to have looser rules. There will be less discipline in dress codes, and obviously less of the implicit panic that comes with being judged under the industry-wide lights. Rather, our favorite looks look like they belong on several different red carpets that they didn’t agree to meet. The event got off to a strong start with the women wearing full gowns. Chase Infinity showed up wearing a hubba bubba pink Louis Vuitton dress, topped with a matching tulle stole and a trail that gave her some much-needed personal space. In contrast, Grace Gummer opted for a sheer, avant-garde Issey Miyake look, complete with black branch-like details that wrapped around her body.
Some of them opt for a little sparkle. Brittany Snow wore a strapless drop-waist Reem Acra dress with bows and sequins all over the front, and Rachel Sennott embraced the detail in her own way. However, not everyone treats floor-length dresses as an obvious choice. Odessa Azion, please receive it from the Cenots. I love LA The co-stars definitely look great on the carpet, even if they go a little off-script. This time, she appears wearing a bright red knit with a striped jumpsuit. And Kate Mara, wearing a sculptural House of Jill minidress styled like a cape, stops just short of full-on drama.
The man hid some surprises in his suit look. For example, Dan Levy clearly wanted us to see his tie. Dallas Liu leaned into something more romantic in a board suit covered in the brand’s hand-knit floral appliqués, which was worn by Ethan Hawke at the 2026 Critics’ Choice Awards. Liu added a satin ribbon at the neck, which felt like a distant relative of his shoes. But Owen Thiele wasn’t interested in tailoring. Instead, he showed up wearing Valentino. A belted melange jacket and a striped collar underneath will work well, if not with briefs.
