Are MAGA voters tired of Trump welcome back into the fold?

There was a large man in my gym who I was silently afraid of for the better part of a year. He’s gray-haired, beer-bellied (at least that’s what we called him), clearly chomping on martinis, and has the self-satisfied demeanor of someone who arrogantly brags about how much tax money Trump is saving them.

He’s a typical country club Trump supporter in every visible way. And he’s keeping it. His oversized screen lights up every time he climbs onto the oval next to me fox newsalmost like a challenge.

The only way I know is to stare straight at my screen. It’s definitely adjusted. morning Joeand pretend he doesn’t exist.

I’m sure he did the same to me.

Then on Monday, something shocking happened. I took one look and almost fell off the machine. he was watching CNN. And for the first time, he looked up and gave me a small, very small nod.

Now, I don’t want to overstate the light nods at the gym. But I’ve been thinking about it ever since. Because it felt like something more than changing your cable TV options. In a way, it seemed to me that he had diminished. smaller. And, dare I say it, it was a defeat.

Its cultural superiority is Maga Years of campaigning, obnoxious oversized flag waving, those awful MAGA hats, and unstoppable stupidity have always hinged on one thing. donald trump He was untouchable.

Challenging these bullish, brainwashed MAGA people was a futile exercise. These fanatics are even more dangerous because they love confrontation.

Most of us disliked their attitude and adjusted accordingly. We have learned to keep our heads down and avoid it at all costs. It was better than trying to argue with ignorant people who stubbornly refuse to believe that worshiping Donald Trump is wrong.

I took the time to read some of the comments and there were tons of news articles about President Trump’s thoughtless wars and threats against him. wipe out civilizationgas prices rising, and a post he shared and then deleted. Myself as Jesus Christ.

So many commenters said, to paraphrase here, “I voted for you three times, and I’m done with you.” This photo I took with my friends from the gym got me thinking. Is it finally time to embrace Trump supporters who may be looking for a way out?

This seems to be especially true in public opinion polls. Among MAGA votersindicating that the recently held elections were overwhelmingly favorable. The Democratic Party won and culture is changing Stay away from Donald Trump. And even podcasters and right-wing pundits like Joe Rogan, Alex Jones, and Megyn Kelly. call trump What he is is a fraud.

on sunday, viktor orban The man championed by Trump and J.D. Vance as a pioneer of nationalist populism lost Hungary’s parliamentary elections, admitting defeat after 16 years in power. It sent a chilling message to dictators and would-be dictators like Trump: “Your days are numbered.”

Opposition leader Péter Magyar, who ran on a platform of fighting corruption and returning to the European mainstream, won in a landslide. Hungarian voters voted in the largest numbers to make this happen since the fall of communism.

The situation in Hungary is the same as they are concentrating their efforts here at home. People eventually grow tired of being ruled by someone else, replaced by personal enrichment, reckless wars, and the impact it has had on our daily lives.

Others include an obsession with ICE, ballrooms, Trump’s name and face on buildings and dollars, and luxury jets from Qatar. It reeks of privilege, sadness, and disregard for people’s needs. As President Trump puts it,let them eat cake”

There is also a religious element. Many so-called Christians supported Trump, but when pigs fly, instead of praying, Trump decided to start a holy war against America. Pope Leo XIV.

Over the weekend, Trump uttered a rant He criticized Pope Leo Mr Trump followed that up with a horrifying AI-generated image of himself as Jesus, but after it was quickly labeled as blasphemous online, he deleted it and claimed it was depicting him.as a doctor”

The Pope’s response was cautious and severe. Flying to Africa to begin an 11-day apostolic journey, Leo told reporters“I’m not afraid of the Trump administration or of speaking out loud the message of the gospel. I believe that’s what I’m here for.”

The Pope hasn’t looked away. According to him, catholic scholarIn other words, he is doing something essentially unprecedented in modern times: directly and repeatedly challenging the president of the United States from a perspective that does not involve diplomatic risk aversion. And the Christian I’m careful.

Shortly after the 2024 election, I wrote: right to be angry For the most part, I still believe that, even though I blame the people who voted for Trump. But getting angry in the lead-up to the midterm elections seems reckless. The guy at the gym who nodded at me was suddenly no longer my enemy.

He is someone who may be about to wake up to the same disaster of a presidency that the rest of us have been watching.

Related: That’s why it’s okay to be angry at people who voted for Trump.

The economy is draining people. The war lasted longer than promised. Epstein files remain sealed. Promises to working people, primarily that inflation would fall, turned out to be lies.

Instead, Trump is obsessed with glitzy banquet halls.L’Arc de Trump” speech in front of Arlington National Cemetery and the Kennedy Center, along with a series of other actions that had nothing to do with America’s working class, tearing the White House apart.

On Monday, Trump I told the delivery person Outside the Oval Office, he said he would “make people better.” That may be the most obviously false thing he’s ever said.

He’s making things incredibly worse. He’s hurting people and that pain is starting to metastasize. It extends to the very people in the MAGA world that I and many like me still resent. However, it may be time to let them know that they have a chance to resolve the issue.

Recall President Trump’s most abusive statements campaign promise“We’re going to win too much. You might even get tired of winning. And you’ll say, ‘Please, please, we’re winning too much. We can’t take it anymore, Mr. President, we’re winning too much.'” And I say, “No, we’re not.” We have to keep winning. ”

And now the opposite is happening. Trump is losing, and losing big, and it’s getting too big. And even many Trump supporters don’t like supporting losers.

And that baffles the rest of us. Should we welcome them with open arms to the winning side, or should we sit on the sidelines and watch them lose again?
