Mercury Station goes retrograde in early star Cancer on June 29th and will remain retrograde until July 23rd. This is a layered retrograde and is worth understanding carefully, as Mercury will not remain in Cancer for the entire window. Around July 7th, it will head in the opposite direction to Gemini, and on July 23rd, it will go directly to Gemini.
If you were born with Mercury retrograde in your birth chart, this transit may feel more natural than confusing. The inward, reflective, pattern-oriented nature of natal Mercury Retrograde tends to recognize the energy of transiting Mercury as it does the same. For others, the normal Mercury current becomes choppy. Communications, technology, contracts, logistics, family conversations, short trips, etc. all require additional patience and redundancy. Please back up your computer within the next two weeks. Please process important business contracts by June 29th. Do not assume that the message was received or understood, and give yourself and others room for misunderstanding.
What are the characteristics of this retrograde
Mercury feels uncomfortable in Cancer. The Moon, which rules Cancer, is considered the enemy of Mercury, and the planet of intellect does not like to operate in the emotional, family-saturated, security-oriented realm of the Moon. Then, as Mercury retrogrades in Cancer, the mind turns inward to the very things Mercury least wants to face: emotions, attachments, old family loops, things that were said at the kitchen table 15 years ago and never resolved.
Retrograde Mercury also gains strength that comes from the retrograde movement itself, which is Cheshta Bala. This is because the planet is moving closer to Earth and moving more violently. Therefore, Mercury here will not become weak or obscure. It’s powerful, but unstable, like a powerful engine spinning backwards. During the first two weeks of retrograde, expect an unusual amount of mental turmoil regarding old family materials and unfinished communications.
Return of the Cross to Gemini Around July 7th
When Mercury turns retrograde from Cancer and returns to Gemini around July 7th, the texture changes. Gemini is Mercury’s own zodiac sign. The mind feels at home again. Information moves faster. Conversations that were stuck in an emotional fog suddenly become clearer. This is good news during retrograde and is worth consciously taking advantage of.
The not-so-good news is that retrograde Gemini is still retrograde. What seems clear can change for you. The clarity is real, yet impressive. Instead of thinking you’ll remember the insight tomorrow, take notes during the second half of the retrograde. Information comes in cleanly, but it can also pass through.

Cancer retrograde station on June 29th. Old content about home, family, and security communications surfaces. Listen more than you talk.
Returns to Gemini on July 7th. It makes me feel better. In particular, expect a wave of insight into writing, teaching, and ideas that have previously been shelved. Please catch them.
July 23rd Gemini Station Direct. The water is clear. The station period will be intense in both directions, so give yourself a few more days before thinking the retrograde is completely behind you.
August 6th Mercury enters Cancer again. Whatever family or emotional content surfaced during the retrograde, a quieter, more grounded follow-up is now needed rather than a re-litigation.

Meditation is your most powerful tool during Mercury Retrograde, especially during this retrograde from Cancer to Gemini. The mind tends to be more emotional than usual. Daily practice, even just 15 minutes in the morning and evening, creates the mental distance to observe change without getting swallowed up by it.
Beyond meditation: slow, grounding yoga to balance your Cancer waters. Deliberate breathing techniques to calm Mercury’s static electricity. and the practice of conscious communication. Listen first, write down important things, and acknowledge receipt of important messages. During this period, try not to restart old arguments with siblings, cousins, or close friends. Mercury rules all those relationships, and a retrograde fog colors every conversation. Whatever you have to say will still be true and easier to say come August.

At the end
Mercury retrograde is not a punishment. Re-calibration. The mind is being asked to slow down, look inward, finish what it starts, and trust deeper knowledge than superficial logic. The water will be clear in three and a half weeks from now. Some of what felt like chaos may turn out to be necessary preparation.
