Considering Mercury will enter Cancer for an extended stay from June 1 to August 9, 2026, and how this ultra-long tour of Mercury in Cancer heats up following Jupiter in Cancer’s once-in-12-year transit of the Sun, many interesting clues and memories have surfaced.
Recently we spent a weekend with our adult children and their partners. For the past few years, we’ve rented a house within driving distance of everyone and come together on the weekends to catch up.
With our adult children living in different locations, we don’t have weekly meals or updates. So this weekend is a chance to share a meal, chat on the couch, and play a board game or three. – We go for walks and usually spend time together.
Peter and I left the weekend feeling full. We look forward to the opportunity to spend time with our children as they begin their lives. Spending time together not only deepens our existing connections, but also helps create new memories for the future.
dreams and plans
As you can imagine, planning for a weekend getaway like this starts months in advance, with a lot of texting and coordinating schedules for the six of us. Once we have decided on a date, we will discuss the location. Our passion for time together and our desire for connection and fun guides us in every preparation, preparation, and operation.
Then it’s time to spend the weekend together, which is always more than we could have imagined. Random chats, insight into who we’re all going to be, and support for any challenges any of us may be facing.
After that we go home. My body is a little tired, but my heart is warm and shining. Although I ate too many snacks, I was happy with my newfound sense of family, compassion, and connection.
After the adventure
Then it’s back to reality with the logistics of laundry, work, and normal life. It’s also the time when our thoughts turn to planning for the coming year, when we take a moment to reflect on the things we love, think about what we can tweak to make things even better, and become curious about how we can continue to carry on family traditions.
The combination of vision and common intention that guides your adventure, the eagerness to break out of your daily routine and do something different, the subsequent organization and settling, and the experience of reflection, evaluation and curiosity about what’s next feels like part of what you, too, may be navigating as the Cancer part of your chart and life begins to shift expression from Jupiter’s hopes and grand plans to details, specificity, and your own evaluation process thanks to Mercury.
Exploring Cravings and Hunger with Mercury in Cancer
Not only will Mercury in Cancer help you tune into some of your hitherto unexpressed longings for what you long for and truly hunger for, but it may also help you create schedules and step-by-step plans for the big dreams that have emerged since Jupiter began its journey through Cancer in June 2025.
The past 12 months may have revealed hints and wishes about what is most nourishing to you. If so, the next 10 weeks will help you research and reflect on how best to make those experiences and rituals a reality, and also help you collaborate with others who may aspire to something similar.
Mercury Retrograde and Saturn in Aries
Mercury’s extended tour through Cancer includes a retrograde from June 29 to July 22, 2026.
Throughout Mercury’s time in Cancer, it engages a sign-based square with Saturn in Aries, but this Mercury-Saturn square aspect feels especially large toward the end of the retrograde and for a brief period in mid-June.
When Mercury’s observatory turns forward in late July, it will be only a few degrees away from Saturn. Mercury-Saturn squares are not exact by degree, but from July 18th to 29th, Mercury will be within 3 degrees of a square to Saturn, and a sense of caution, restraint, or hesitation may seem heavier than usual.
This Mercury-Saturn square theme begins on June 10th with a precise square from Mercury at 12 degrees Cancer to Saturn at 12 degrees Aries.
It may be appropriate to be clear about your limits, set clear boundaries, or opt out of things instead of saying “yes.” We may revisit these themes in late July around Mercury Station.
In other words, Mercury in Cancer is now in the middle of the year, and it has the atmosphere of a square with Saturn in Aries. In summer or winter, you may find yourself less inclined to push your limits and more interested in people and places with which you are familiar and feel safe.
You may prefer to scale back your plans and regular commitments to keep things manageable and simple.
Cancer and Saturn are both frugal by nature, and may find that lower-cost intentional choices are appealing, or that they prefer simple plans over extravagant options.
mercury and moon
Mercury in the Moon sign can help you tune into the flow and feelings of things, and may help you gain a deeper understanding of the underlying currents of your emotions, needs, and connections.
You might take advantage of this long cycle of Mercury in Cancer to explore the rhythm that supports you the most, honoring how your attention and curiosity shift every few days.
With Mercury in Cancer for weeks, you may find yourself remembering or talking about past events and experiences. Putting thoughts, feelings, and reflections into words through conversations and pages can help you digest both current situations and past experiences.
A slower, more reflective pace may help you tap into the wisdom that comes with maturity and experience. Conversely, you yourself may find yourself adopting a “less is more” attitude or finding that simplicity in planning and gathering helps support deeper connections and richer interactions.
Now that Mercury is in Cancer, I would like to hear what is rising in your heart and memory.
