Eyes in the Sky — Mercury in Aries: April 30 – May 14, 2026
Mercury crosses Gandanta from Pisces and enters the sidereal Aries on April 30th, finally emerging from its weakest sign after a long stay. The intersection of Gandanta, where 27 to 30 degrees of Pisces merges into 0 to 3 degrees of Aries, is never completely smooth. Troubled emotional knots must be untied before the energy can be purified. Wait a day or two for the static electricity to subside. Once Mercury finds its footing in Aries, it is clear that it will move from being vague and diffuse to being direct, swift and actionable. Rather than asking Mercury for attention, Aries asks Mercury to make a move.
Mercury in Ashwini: April 30th to May 8th
Mercury begins its transit in Ashwini Nakshatra (0-13.20 degrees Aries), ruled by the twins Ketu and Ashwin, the “divine doctors” who provide healing and vitality from their golden chariots. This is the nakshatra of initiation, new beginnings, and transformative healing. Ketu’s influence here gives the mind a mystical, non-linear quality, useful for intuitive leaps, but prone to scattering. Take on only what you can handle. Ashwini’s wild horse energy wants to gallop in five directions at once. Discipline is choosing one and doing it. Mercury’s combustion begins around May 1-2 (within 14 degrees of the Sun until May 26), so the entire transit of Aries runs through solar fire. You get speed and shine, but so does overheating.
Mercury in Bharani: May 8th to 14th
Mercury will move into Bharani Nakshatra (13.20-26.40 degrees Aries) around May 8th, ruled by Venus and associated with transformation, death of the old man, and the creative woman, Yama. Bahrani oscillates between a hunger for life and an awareness of impermanence, between naivety and profound wisdom. Venus’s rulership brings creative writing, speech, and a deeper sweetness to Mercury’s expression here. This is one of the most artistically productive windows in transportation. Writers, speakers, and performers may find that their work has unusual depth.
Kazimi: May 14th, 29 degrees Aries
The transit will reach its peak moment on May 14th. Mercury Kazimi is at 29 degrees 22 minutes Aries, exactly in Gandanta between Aries and Taurus. In Kazimi, the “center of the sun”, Mercury’s best qualities emerge and Gandanta adds karmic weight. What will be revealed on May 14th may be the untying of knots that have been building for years. Mark it for meditation, deep writing, or communication that requires absolute clarity. Mercury enters Taurus on May 15th, slowing down and stopping after Fire in Aries. If Gemini rises, this 11th house transit supports profits and networking. When Virgo rises, the 8th house transit asks for care regarding health and shared resources. For Aries rising, Mercury in the 1st brings candor, but use it purposefully.
As always, thank you to my Guru and Jyotish Guru for their wisdom and guidance.
