The fashion elite is suitable for the 2025 Met Gala, and took over the decadent blue carpet of the Metropolitan Museum of Art with (super) best tailoring, so it was hard not to realize that one high street trend I’d seen everywhere in London was suddenly discovered at the famous Manhattan stage.
In this year’s edition, lighting fixtures in styles of film, television, music, sports, theater and culture were adhering to the dress code “Tailored for You” to celebrate and attach the theme of the Costume Institute’s spring exhibition “Superfine: Tailing Black Style.” The display was a homage to the rich and resilient motifs of black dandyism’s cultural and aesthetic styling. But between nods to Andre Leon Tully, Dapper Dunn, Josephine Baker and Bianca Jaguar there was a particular tendency that piqued my interest: the waist blazer.

The reason this trend caught my eye is that its shape is currently inevitable in expensive high alley stores such as Zara, Mango, H&M, and Araigne. We are here proud of ourselves that we are ahead of the dress curve, not to mention the fact that we first noticed a fitted blazer rising, dating back to 2024.
Currently, it has been approved by the most influential and knowledgeable people in the industry today. For beginners, the waist blazer is a jacket cut that embraces and tucks around the waist, creating an hourglass silhouette that is synonymous with ’80s power dressing and ’90s minimalism. On the red carpet, flare outlines were interpreted in a variety of ways. Sabrina Carpenter and Doja Cat both put short N’Sweet Twists on the trend, looking for a super-crushed, defined waist blazer to offset the more risk-free look. Haley Bieber did the same, wearing a St. Laurent mini blazer dress sandwiched between the midpoint of her torso.
To my surprise, I need to award the Best West Blazer Award to Kendall Jenner. According to an interview with TrendyJenner was inspired by queer nightclub singer Gladys Bentley. How about history lessons?

Of course, the waist blazer shows no signs of slowing down, so consider your red carpet debut as an official invitation to invest in yourself. First, take a look at the best waist blazer moments to shop with the Met Gala in 2025.
