Manish Malhotra made his debut at Paris Haute Couture Week, closing the third day of the show with a collection that doubled as a very personal tribute. The collection, titled Maa, was dedicated to Malhotra’s late mother, and the show began with the sound of a heartbeat echoing down the runway, creating an emotional and intimate atmosphere before the looks arrived.
The collection consisted of four acts. Opening with “Cocoon – A Nurturing Heart,” sculptural silhouettes, rounded volumes, and architectural balloon shapes recall the early stages of life, turning couture into both structure and refuge. From there, Bond – The Knots of Life softened the silhouette with flowing drapes and layered construction, reflecting the invisible bond between mother and child. The third act, “Becoming – Finding My Voice,” puts craftsmanship at the center, with Indian artisanal traditions such as vintage sari embroidery, taban sequins, zardozi, resham and crystal work reinterpreted through precision tailoring and architectural corsetry. The collection culminated with Abundance – In Full Bloom, where monumental gowns and richly decorated surfaces expressed intergenerational heritage.

The collection was built around rich velvets, floral appliqués, fringes, cords and ribbon details through a palette of blush pinks, creams, corals, golds, reds and whites. Several gowns featured braided cord or rope treatments wrapped sculpturally around the body, while strong-shouldered cocoon coats and exaggerated silhouettes gave the collection an architectural, almost otherworldly quality. Sea creature-inspired shapes and 3D floral patterns were everywhere, and statement jewelery moments like ornate earrings and delicate head jewels anchored almost every look in an old-world charm. Personal references were woven throughout, with shades of blush and rose inspired by Malhotra’s mother, floral motifs drawn from her favorite flowers, and jewelery-inspired embellishments served as intimate expressions of remembrance.

The emotional core of the collection is most evident in the embroidered gowns with engravings depicting the embrace of a mother and child, a direct statement of the collection’s dedication. Elsewhere, a red floral dress and matching coat stood out as one of the show’s most memorable moments, striking a balance between drama and comfort. As an extension of the collection, Manish Malhotra High Jewelery unveiled sculptural pieces crafted from monumental diamonds, rubies, kunzites, rubellites and rare sapphires, reflecting the collection’s celebration of motherhood.

Beyond the craftsmanship, the show carried historical weight for Malhotra himself. His first haute couture presentation in Paris marks a milestone in a career that began decades ago designing costumes for Bollywood and ended with launching his own label in 2005. This season, his collection joins a lineup that includes Zuhair Murad and other established brands, placing his work squarely in the Paris haute couture conversation. For Malhotra, the show was a personal and professional milestone. It was an opportunity to honor her mother’s memory while commemorating her appearance on one of fashion’s biggest stages.
