Fortunately, Annette Richmond is challenging fat phobia on his travels with a platform dedicated to enhancing and normalizing the plus-size traveler experience.

“Tavelling Travelling” creates space for plus-sized travelers

Richmond launched Fat girl traveling After realising that it has been hardly considered by plus-size travelers.

“I’ve never seen myself in travel ads and it takes a deep dive to find information about accessibility,” she shares.

To solve this problem, she thought Fat Girls Travel Tour. This idea combines accessibility with luxury to create an unforgettable group experience. Curated trips will take travelers to the destination they are looking for, ensuring a genuine sense of comfort, accessibility and a community.

Beyond group tours, her brand offers Custom Travel Planning Servicehelping individuals and families navigate plus-size friendly accommodations, activities, and experiences. Richmond and her team consulted with travel brands to help them become more inclusive.

Fat Camp: A Rest for Rest and Joy

One of Richmond’s most beloved projects is Fat Campnostalgic, fat-positive adult summer camp. Unlike traditional weight loss-focused camps, this hideaway is about joy, relaxation and connection.

“We are rewriting history, creating new camp memories and first-time experiences,” she explains.

From arts and crafts to campfires, Fat Camp Prioritize healing, community and celebrations.

Fashionable Journey: Flying Dress and Bridge Tonball

Richmond will infuse his style into any adventure as a fashion stylist and fashion institute for design and merchandising alumni. One of her most precious experiences was a photo shoot in a Santorini flying dress.

“It was important to find a dress in my size and work with a photographer who had experience with plus-size travelers,” she recalls.

She also fondly recalls her participation in Bridgetonball. This is a whimsical reminder that you don’t have the opportunity to dress up too small!

Travel essentials for plus-size adventurers

Preparation is important for plus-size travelers. Here are some Richmond essentials:

  • Seat Belt Extender: Make sure to request it from the airline, rather than bringing it yourself for safety reasons.

“I feel blessed to have lived abroad for nearly 10 years and am working on a residency in Mexico,” she says.
