The writings of the Founding Fathers of the United States contain numerous references to Cicero, Montesquieu, John Locke, and others. its name is Haider Ali and his son tipu sultan “Never appear” may not sound all that surprising, even if you know that they ruled the Mysore region of India, officially called Mysore, at the time. However, history records that many Americans, including Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, continued to follow this father-son struggle against the British with great interest. Those struggles took place from the mid-18th century to the early 19th century. In this era, the American colonies naturally had their own conflicts with the motherland.
Hyder became Sultan of Mysore in the 1760s. “It was a dangerous time to seize power in South Asia.” Written by Blake Smith on Aeongiven that “the British East India Company was expanding its influence throughout the subcontinent.” Like the rebellious American colonists, Hyder allied himself with France and “held off British advances for another twenty years, dying in 1782, just one year before the Americans achieved victory in their rebellion against Great Britain.”
American interest in Hyder and his successor Tipu, who died fighting the East India Company in 1799, remained for some time. “The rulers of Mysore became a familiar mention in American newspapers, poetry, and everyday conversation. But within a generation, Americans lost their sense of solidarity with the Indian subcontinent.”

According to the video’s organizers, he also “created a nearly life-sized automaton of a tiger eating a British soldier,” adding, “The automaton included a crank attached to a mechanism inside the tiger’s body that simultaneously lifted the dying man’s arm and produced a sound that mimicked his final screams.” He and his army continued to fight in that spirit, but after America and France made peace with Britain, the situation in Mysore became untenable. Despite recent hostilities, this newly liberated colony would soon become something of an ally in maintaining the remaining territories of the British Empire, including India, and would eventually learn a lesson or two of its own about global expansion of power.
