This August, writer Al Ewing and artist Pasqual Ferry will celebrate THOR’s 800th issue with a special commemorative issue that pits the mortal Thor Sigurd Jarsson against the Serpent’s most ferocious challenge yet. With the fate of the Ten Kingdoms at stake and without the ability to wield superpowers or a magical hammer, Sigurd’s quest to prove his worth and restore life to Asgard’s forgotten god sets the stage for the third act of Ewing’s myth-shaking Thor Saga.

at the end of ewing immortal saw, The god of thunder met his fate and died as a sacrifice to strengthen the spell by his brother Loki. This spell caused Thor to be forgotten by all who knew him, and the remaining Asgardians were seemingly cut off from the kingdom of Midgard forever. But the story continued mortal sawwhen a new hero rises on the streets of New York City, one with no powers, only a determination to right wrongs with a hammer. Desiring a normal life but forced into the fray, Sigurd Jarsson finds himself haunted by threats from Thor’s past, including the ferocious Donald Blake (aka The Serpent) and Mr. Hyde. Sigurd’s encounters with these bad guys bring him closer to solving the mystery linking him to the missing Asgardian god of thunder, and a key moment is set to occur in the August issue of MORTAL THOR.

“Issue #800 wraps up the long-running plotlines that have plagued Thor since before his death, but it also sets Sigurd Jarsson on a journey through the mythical world to Asgard, a place where Thor has never been needed more than now,” Ewing explains. “Sigurd still lacks the power to surpass his own courage, wits, and willpower. Will a mortal be able to rise to the test of the gods, save the ten worlds, and bring the God of Thunder back to those who need him? We couldn’t ask for a better artist than Pascal Ferry to tell this story. We hope you enjoy the ride we have planned for you. #800 is just the beginning!”

mortal saw #14/LGY #800 also includes a commemorative story by rising star author Chris Condon (ultimate wolverine) and artist Jesse Lonergan (Drome), plus the return of fan favorites Thor and journey into mystery Secretary Kieron Gillen.

The snake imprisoned Sigurd Jarsson in the worst world as his greatest test. Now he must prove himself worthy of entering the divine realm without even having a weapon. Somewhere in the city, a man without even a hammer begins the ultimate quest…the quest for Thor!
