Emma and Cecilia Black grew up in a large family that constantly sang together. Now, these two sisters from Grand Rapids, Michigan, have made an album of folk songs for children. They want people to know that their families can start singing together without any special training or equipment.
Here, Emma and Cecilia, recorded under the name Roundabout, discuss the spirit of folk music about participation rather than consumption. They amusing us in amusing the notion that folk music is always squealing, squealing, healthy. Finally, they touch on the issue of commercial children’s music, as opposed to the album. Singsong PennyWhistleIt is not musically or lyrically foolish, and is attractive and accessible.
