Oni Press Brings Old School War Stories Back In New EC Comics Special ‘Shellshock’

In August of this year, Oni Press has announced a new anthology of “Men Who Fight the War” in EC Comics’ next giant-sized 56-page feature. shell shock #1.This feature features new war stories alongside remastered and restored classic EC Comics stories.

He takes on humanity’s greatest enemy, himself, as commander Julio Anta (This land is our land: The story of the blue beetle), John Arcudi (BPRD), Benito Sereno (Invincible Present: Atom Eve), Michael W. Conrad (double walker) Leading a joint campaign with artistic bombardier Tom Fowler (EC’s Catacombs of Torture), David Lapham (stray bullet), Albert Monteith (Slaughterhouse-Five: Graphic Novel), Sean Martinbrough (thief among thieves).

EC Comics was a major purveyor of war stories in its heyday. During Sgt., The Rock and Nick Fury were military heroes for DC, Marvel, and EC. tale of two fists and front line combat presented the kind of gritty, violent warfare you’d expect from the publisher of . Stories from the basement. Thanks to the anti-war stance of editor Harvey Kurtzman, a trained infantryman during World War II, EC’s work showed combat to be dirty, violent, and terrifying. Other notable contributors at the time included Wally Wood (Mars Attacks, Daredevil)Joe Kubert (himself known for war comics such as Sergeant Rock), And even Dave Berg of Mad Magazine. Although interest in war comics overall declined with the end of the Korean War, EC’s war comics are well remembered for their approach to war stories that still feels radical to this day.

The anthology cover was created by Lee Bermejo (joker), Tyler Crook (Out of Alcatraz Island), Tom Fowler (mad magazine), Jay Stevens (residence), Ryan Hughes (Inscription from the abyss)!
