Don’t get frustrated anymore, let’s all get to work…

Actually, wait a minute. We would all be happier and more productive if we took a little time to start our work day. confidencea peppy 1933 animated musical starring a newly elected president. franklin delano roosevelt And the pioneer of Mickey Mouse, Oswald the lucky rabbit.

Today we call them the 1%, but few Americans are safe from this crisis. poverty of great depression. Cinema was one industry that continued to thrive through these dark times precisely because it provided a few hours of respite. No one went to look at photos to see a reflection of their life. Gorgeous dresses, glamorous Manhattan apartments, and romantic troubles guaranteed to be resolved with happy endings…think Mia Farrow’s embattled waitress soaking up the sun. The Purple Rose of Cairo”s A reassuring glow?

Given the public’s penchant for escapism, directors bill nolan, father of rubber hose animationthey could have played it safe by hiding the backstory that led Oswald to seek advice from the commander-in-chief. Instead, Nolan sends hilarious cartoon animals into the realm of nightmares, and the Great Depression is personified as a hooded figure of death laying waste to the land. It’s oddly unsettling to see a very cheerful vintage barnyard grass (and vicious monkey) subjected to this graphic excitement.

Oh, and for the sake of oral history — I’d like to know how the matinee crowd reacted when Oswald ran screaming in front of a spinning, dizzying background in search of a non-comic solution to a problem. Irony is a luxury they didn’t have.

As promised by the presidential campaign, this production is uniquely tailored to meet the demands of musical comedy. witness Annie, The 32nd president was again asked the following: Rex Harrison This time, he will step into the hearts of the audience from his wheelchair. confidence About 40 years ago, I didn’t dare show it.

The divide between entertainment and national leaders has also become quite pervasive these days.

So what really sets this comic apart for me is its use of a giant, presidentially-sanctioned syringe as a tool to get Depression-era America back on its feet. A figurative injection of confidence is all well and good, but in the most literal way, it won’t bring back the way Hie sings freely and dances his feet.
