Vince Staples – “Cotton”
ahead of the release of the new album cry baby On Friday, Vince Staples released another single, the funky, hypnotic “Cotton.” It follows previous cuts “Blackberry Marmalade” and “White Flag.”
Beth Orton – “Otherside”
Beth Orton unveils next album’s emotional closer ‘Otherside’ the ground above. “They say the first birdsong of a new day is the sound the birds make to let them know they’re still here, that they’ve survived the night and made it through the night safely,” Orton explained. “Otherside explores what begins as a story of unsophisticated sleeplessness and a much larger story of resilience in the face of loss, what freedom means to individuals and groups, and the ability to start again and make it beautiful when life is torn apart.” It’s the embodiment of what it feels like to make something we dare to dream of, beg a loved one home, get through the night, or get through the day.”
Death Cab for Cutie – “Stone Over Water”
Death Cab for Cutie releases another single from upcoming album I built you a towerarriving later this week. “Riptides” and “Punching the Flowers” are followed by the gentle and patient “Stone Over Water.” “‘Stone Over Water’ is a song about trying to convince those around you, and most importantly yourself, that you are okay when you absolutely are not,” the band said in a statement.
Belle and Sebastian – “It only takes one lion”
Belle and Sebastian released a studio version, which they served as Scotland’s World Cup anthem. Stuart Murdoch said of the song, which was produced by Pete Ferguson, aka Woo-O: “This is a personal song that follows the tribulations of the Scottish national team over the past 50 years, and it came about organically the day after the game against Denmark.” “This song seeks to encompass the experience of the entire country that follows Scotland.”
Fenne Lily – “Uh Huh”
Fenne Lily releases new album Win-winkindly confirms “Hmm”. “When one love ends and another begins, you meet someone new, but the pain from before is still there, and that’s what’s holding you back,” the Brooklyn-based artist explained. “Each breakup felt like it hurt forever, but it always led me to something different and often better, never nothing.”
Meg Stalter – “Gay”
“Everything we do is kill,” Meg Stalter declares in her new single “GAY,” released just in time for Pride. Here’s the second preview of the actress and comedian’s new album to cravescheduled for later this summer.
Public Opinion – “When Kevin is Free”
Public Opinion has released a new song, “When Kevin Gets Free,” with a video directed by Jarrett Barnes. This is an excerpt from their next album curse of public opinionarriving on August 7th via SideOneDummy.
Mikki Blanco – “Little Feat”
Mikki Blanco releases new album Cafe Paradiso – Released September 4th – We share the groovy lead single “Little Feat” with news. “If there’s one way I know how to live life to the fullest,” Blanco said in a press release. “Shit. I make mistakes. But hopefully I’ll have accomplished more than shit. All in all, I’d say I’ve squeezed the best out of life and done well.”
