Mercury retrograde begins again From August 23rd to September 15th, 2023. Here’s what you need to know:
Mercury retrograde is notorious for being a time of difficulty and misunderstanding that can turn your life upside down.
There’s a running joke that during Mercury retrograde it’s best to stay at home… avoid traveling, don’t talk to people, don’t take on new projects, sign papers, make decisions…
While there is a grain of truth in this, there’s a huge cultural superstition and prejudice that’s arisen about Mercury retrograde… that’s actually incredibly powerless.
Astrology is there to shed light on the influence of energies that are going on so that you can know what’s coming and respond accordingly, and use that energy to thrive, not to say, “Oh, next month is going to be a rough month, too bad!”
Let’s be honest, with Mercury going retrograde three to four times a year, the “avoid people and stay indoors” approach just isn’t realistic.
moreover,There are many positives to Mercury retrograde That is if you are aware of its typical influences and consciously choose to make the most of the nearly month-long retrograde period.
Remember, astrological influences like Mercury retrograde are based on the basic premise that each planet in the sky has an effect on our physical bodies.
The positions, movements of the planets, and their relationship to us, affect everything from personality, moods, relationships, and even personal and global events.
In astrology, Mercury rules communication, intellect, memory, self-expression, technology, and transportation.
So where Mercury is in your birth chart can reveal a lot about how you communicate, perceive, and relate to the world around you.

So what exactly is Mercury retrograde?
Mercury orbits the Sun at a faster speed than Earth, and several times a year, Mercury catches up with Earth and overtakes it on its journey around the Sun.
As Mercury passes Earth, from our perspective it appears to slow down, stop completely, and then move backwards. This backward motion is a retrograde period. Of course, it’s not actually moving backwards; it’s just an illusion created by Mercury passing Earth on its orbit between the Earth and the Sun.
Three times a year, Mercury goes through this phenomenon in its orbit where it appears to move backwards from Earth. Astrology defines this as retrograde motion, and Mercury retrograde lasts for about three weeks.
Mercury prototype
As an archetypal symbol, Mercury represents thought and communication, produced through thinking, writing, speaking and teaching.
As mentioned above, Mercury is also associated with travel, communication, and technology, so the general belief is that when Mercury is retrograde (appears to be moving backwards), these areas of your life will also be backwards, upside down, and in disarray for around three weeks.
Mercury retrograde definitely has a bad reputation.
Many people associate this retrograde period with communication troubles, lost keys, technical issues, travel delays, broken electronic devices, etc. If you do a basic search, you can find a long list of things to avoid and things that may cause problems during this retrograde period.
But remember… you co-create your life experiences, so focusing on the negative aspects of Mercury retrograde increases the likelihood of them coming into being.
But there are benefits to Mercury retrograde periods, too. If you haven’t heard of them before, don’t be surprised… While it’s easier to focus on the challenges, by noticing the opportunities, you can make the conscious choice to embrace the unique energy of Mercury retrograde and use this time to bring blessings into your life throughout the rest of the year.
Mercury Retrograde – Does it mean anything good?
Mercury retrograde has the power to open our eyes to things that we never really could, didn’t want to, or were too busy to see before.
So Mercury retrograde is a great time to re-evaluate what you’re doing. Rather than jumping into something new, it’s a great time to finish off existing projects, refine and improve existing work, and find solutions and innovations where you’ve been stuck or stagnant before.
You may also find it easier to see things from a different perspective, or from another person’s point of view…or subconscious issues or patterns may come to the surface during Mercury retrograde, for you to examine, reflect on, and resolve.
Retrogrades are an opportunity to slow down and turn your focus inward. Certainly, extra patience will be needed at times as problems become apparent or processes in transportation, technology and communication take a little longer.
However, if you open yourself up to the energy of Mercury retrograde, it might all come together as a breath of fresh air when you realize that this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, and that it’s best to slow down a bit, be patient, and wait for things to work themselves out.
Sometimes, stepping out of your usual routine (which Mercury may be your catalyst for) can be the best way to refresh yourself, gain a deeper understanding, or see things in a new perspective.
Mercury retrograde shows us things that need to be redone, revised, or changed entirely, so instead of getting frustrated when you realize you need to rebuild something, think of it as an opportunity to create something even better than it was before.
Mercury Retrograde and Communication
On the communication front, some may tell you to stay indoors, turn off your cell phone, and avoid talking to anyone to limit communication issues that seem to be more prevalent at times during Mercury retrograde.
Communication can be difficult during this time, but these difficult conversations usually have a purpose and can lead to breakthroughs, deeper insights, and more authentic connections.
Repairing past conflicts, clearing misunderstandings, and resolving karma are all very real possibilities with all of the powerful communication work that can take place during Mercury retrograde.
It’s also a great time to reflect on your communication style with yourself and others.
How can you communicate your intentions more lovingly while still speaking your truth?
What does your inner voice or self-talk sound like? Are you loving and supporting yourself, or maybe the way you talk to yourself needs re-evaluating?
The key is to trust your intuition, be honest, and open-minded, and make the most of the communication opportunities during this time.
Remember, Mercury isn’t actually retrograde, it’s just an illusion. So when it seems like communication, technology, travel, etc. are retrograde, remember this. It’s all for a purpose, it’s not a regression, it’s an opportunity to make things better, finish something more perfectly, or see things in a new way that you may have missed the first time.
Mercury retrograde is a great time to practice patience, reflect on your life and the things you are working on, finish current projects, and look at reality and any aspect of your life in a more positive and whole new light.
The most important thing is to stay positive, keep an open mind, and know that Mercury will soon be direct again, bringing rapid progress in all areas of your life.
And remember… you have powerful support from the angels! Let’s take a look at it…
