I don’t know about you, but I’ve never felt so busy. As the years go by, we all take on more and more things. If you are feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and in crisis; burnout syndromeyou are not alone. Burnout can happen to anyone, regardless of their profession or lifestyle, and can leave you feeling tired and your skin irritated and looking dull. Here are some important tips to overcome burnout.
How can I overcome burnout?
- Recognize the signs of burnout
Prevention is always better than cure. It’s important to recognize the signs of burnout. Burnout is characterized by a feeling of energy depletion or fatigue, and emotional distance reduces productivity at home and at work. If you experience any of these symptoms, take action to prevent the situation from getting worse. - take a break
It may sound obvious, but when the pressure is on, taking a break can feel impossible. If you think you’re on the verge of burnout, it’s absolutely important to prioritize taking breaks so you can recharge and effectively tackle what you need to do. If you think you’re going to take a break when you’re done, it may be too late. - find the antidote
What is the opposite of burnout? Energy! Think about the activities that energize you and incorporate more of them into your life. It might be spending time with loved ones, taking a long bath or an early night, or getting up early to exercise. Dedicating time to activities that give you joy and energy can help prevent burnout. - Mindfulness
Make time for mindfulness. Self-care is non-negotiable if you want to avoid burnout. If you don’t know where to start, check out one of these mindfulness apps and follow the steps to improve your well-being. - learn how to say no
Sounds so easy, right?! But when you’re a people-pleaser and you’re used to getting everything done, saying “no” can be a big change. You can’t overcome burnout if you don’t know how to set boundaries for yourself. So if you’re tired or stressed, say no to social events or extra work until you can say yes. - tidy up
When you have a lot of work to do, it’s important to take time to organize and prioritize your tasks. You may be doing things better than you think, but you can’t relieve stress until you know exactly what still needs to be done. - please ask for help
If you only do one thing, make it this one! Trying to accomplish everything on your own will only lead to faster burnout. Just telling someone how you feel can help ease the burden a little. No matter how difficult it may seem, ask for help with what you are struggling with.
