Well, I’m happy to say that I’ve *almost* completely finished what I’ve decorated, styled, photographed and photographed my brother’s house. We spent a week two weeks ago and got one-piece style from all the remaining spaces. The living room, kitchen, dining room, library, and entry/staircase all portray vision of each other, so you need to properly destroy that whole floor to make sure everything is visible (and balanced). I wanted to curate and edit it, but it was still very homey and layered, and it took a lot of time and very time-consuming (and required a lot of shopping).

For example, I needed so many pillows, so I styled two huge living room daybeds/benches, two huge sofas, then two huge chairs, two huge dining benches/daybeds, then two huge chairs on the library sofa and the entrance sofa. Imagine the amount you need to “play together” to make your pillow look all cohesive (like 50). By the way, this was incredibly fun. In my favorite part of the job (I think so?) I was Monday to Friday with my brother’s family and we really tore the house to finish her off.
So when can we see it? !!

Now, two things hold us back. 1. It’s a potential magazine feature, so you’re waiting for the editor to check out the magazine’s dedicated room (if any) (i.e. it cannot be published later). This has not been confirmed, so we can know sooner because this may be easier (but we are excited – it is always a very honor to print). 2. There was a huge release of a product that I filmed in this house, and there were some timing delays in the launch due to customs situation (which is being changed daily). Ideally, these photos will help launch that collection, so we don’t want to publish without actually having a link to buy a new Pretty Things (we’re so obsessed with the modest keys and are extremely proud).
Additionally, one of our works requires some design changes to change, so we have to wait until six weeks to photograph the family room. Technically, you’ll need to go back to July to get that last room.

Next week we can get lots of family/kids/ME+Ken shots and videos for all platforms to round out all the social footage and partnership deliverables. This home has a four-year partnership and I am very excited to be able to put this content there.
You can release a powder bath quickly and technically showcase the dining room (there are no EHD products to wait for one of them), but as it is open to the kitchen/living room, you won’t be able to actually see all the angles.

Doing it at home feels very strange and I was relieved. I was looking at this summer’s calendar. This is usually full of shoots of river houses and farmers, but it’s a bit empty. Yes, I need a new project 🙂 We will soon start a 1850s home, but it’s a very long game that requires inspectors and permission, and it’s not really fun for a while. So you can look into your friends and family projects and work on design/styling on a tentative basis (and, of course, there are plenty of ideas from other readers). Either way, I want to balance these higher-end mods with more fun budgets and DIY stories. More coming 🙂

All I can say to you is that if we could style our brother’s house it would have looked rather incredible. I wanted to cry. In fact, it reminds me of a better mountain home – just warmer, more stacked and more colorful, but with the same wood/natural light atmosphere. I’m so excited how it all came together and some shots really really kill me. I wish I could show you everything now, but I hope you enjoy Sneak Peak 🙂
If you’re not familiar with this project here, you can access this landing page where all River House Posts live.
Well, in fact, there are all the public so far:
