I’ve had back pain for as long as I can remember, but that’s not a statement a 22-year-old would make. Visits to the orthopedic surgeon, late night doomscrolling of WebMD, and research into alternative medicine, mostly to no avail, all confirmed one thing. That said, I had scoliosis that wasn’t severe enough to warrant a back brace (or surgery, for that matter), but still significant enough to compromise my health.

Over time, I learned that the pain and tension disappeared with daily exercise, and my father even made me a triangular wooden device to lie down on while I did my schoolwork. This leads to better spinal alignment and reduced pressure in the long run.

At this point in my life, my scoliosis-related problems aren’t as severe as they were when I hit puberty, but I still wake up in pain and feel really tired on days when I can’t train.

So imagine my joy when I found a way to alleviate these challenges while improving my notoriously bad posture. It was a method that didn’t use complex technology (such as wires or sensors) or unwieldy physical objects. Salvation came in the form of Forme’s $178 power bra, which was famously spotted on Taylor Swift during last year’s “Ellas Tour” rehearsals, as filmed in the documentary “The End of an Era.”

And although it is expensive, the sports bra is worth it in the end. largely Despite all the hype last year, it remains one of the leading posture correcting clothing solutions on the market. As a fashion commerce writer who regularly tests trending brands and styles, this is exactly why I needed to get my hands on this.

Here are the results of that test:

Editor’s Review: Forme Posture Correcting Bra

Like all the most rewarding things in life, it took some time to properly get used to the Forme Power Bra (available in seven different colorways in sizes from XS to 3XL).

When I first put on this piece, which has a perfect rosé hue for summer, I felt my shoulder blades for the first time in months, if not months. year — retreated into its rightful place, effectively opening up my airway and (not exaggerating) giving me a new lease on life.

After all, this award-winner’s method instantly improves your posture.[ing] Naturally guides spine and shoulder muscle groups in real time[ing] “Adjusts your body to the proper position,” the brand copy says.

This result is due to Forme’s proprietary technology, which works solely on fabric, without any fancy gizmos or obnoxious add-ons. Utilizing neuromuscular feedback and proprioception, essentially train By training your muscles to feel like standing up straight, the Forme bra sets up your body to successfully prevent slouching. At some point, your body will be able to perform the appropriate movements without the need for any reinforcement.

I’ve said this at length that the Forme Power Bra has a lot going for it, but the fact that this bra provides aggressive, targeted resistance to the skin is such that I got a severe migraine within the first two hours of wearing it, which quickly subsided as soon as I took the product off.

Interestingly, bad posture Headaches are associated with headaches, but they can also occur if you overcorrect your headaches while tensing your neck muscles that aren’t used to keeping your spine in the correct shape.

For this very reason, Forme recommends starting slowly. Start by wearing your power bra for just a few hours a day, then incorporate it into your routine on a more consistent basis for longer periods of time. Once I got used to these physical changes, my migraines went away and I actually felt free in every sense of the word. My breathing also became deeper. This is likely why Swift uses Forme to expand her lung capacity before shows.

Over the past few months, I’ve carried the bra with me from work to training, and even wore it under my clothes for casual date nights around town. In the gym, Forme’s Power Bra has been invaluable in establishing a stronger mind-muscle connection when doing movements like army crawls with the reformer and overhead presses with free weights, and has also improved my endurance during repetitions.

And when you’re spending hours at a desk job, a power bra keeps you from entering Hunchback of Notre Dame territory, which is reflected in everything from reducing EOD fatigue to alleviating carpal tunnel symptoms.

Another bonus: Power bras are, quite simply, cute. I’m not usually into racerback construction, but I’m willing to make an exception here based on the Forme’s flattering mesh overlays, multi-directional stretch yet shape-holding tensile material, ample bust support for a 32DD cup, and a wide range of shade options to suit every mood, season, style sensibility, and OOTD.

When I tried on a competitor, the straps dug into my shoulders and my overall physique didn’t lend itself to all-day wear. (strap That’s all My existing bra? That’s fine. )

Another lifesaver was Forme’s user-friendly website. Optimized with AI features to make your shopping experience smoother and more intuitive. For example, you can ask all about the potential risks and side effects of bras by typing your question into the on-screen ‘ClinicianAI’ search bar, or get detailed product analysis from our dedicated Medical Advisory Board (which can summarize key points from controlled clinical studies on posture cueing compression wear).

Worried about your bra being too small and too tight? Forme lets you enter your band size and cup size on the landing page and it will tell you the best size for your body.

I’m not the only one raving about this posture savior, with thousands of reviewers sharing their thoughts like: “I absolutely love this bra. I’m 5’10”, DD is perfect for everyday wear under work clothes. It provides great lift and separation without the unibob and smooths out nicely under the top. The biggest surprise for me was how much it helped my posture. In fact, since I’ve been wearing it regularly, I’ve noticed that my daily headaches have stopped. ”

Forme’s industry-leading, cutting-edge posture science can also be enjoyed holistically through releases such as the Smart Posture Jacket, Scrub Top (the first-ever posture-correcting medical scrub), Power Skort, and Sculpt + Leggings.

And if you’re like me and interested in clothing that promotes spine health, many other brands are also announcing exciting new ways to overhaul your wardrobe while keeping your whole-body health in mind.

Add posture-correcting bras, vests, shirts, and activewear to your cart to say goodbye to back pain once and for all.
