Are you ready for a personal holiday decorating schedule? (No pressure, since my job involves changing up typical processes.) Ok, October: Start collecting inspiration, new ideas, and new pieces you want (the good ones may sell out). November: It’s dark and humid outside, so it’s fun to start adding greenery and twinkling lights (yes, indoors is fake for us, real outdoors will come later; no, we’re not hosting Thanksgiving; we’re traveling to family that week). Then, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, we have a little family ornament hanging party (literally my favorite night of the year), and from there it’s an explosive holiday. There’s no need to be shy. It’s not embarrassing. Just a complete joy. I really want people to run whatever schedule they want, real or fake, long or short. For me, this spreads out the fun (and effort) and gives me 2 months of twinkling light, which helps tremendously with dark nights and mornings (magic never gets old). For this shoot, we visited The Curly, one of the most charming rental retreats outside of Portland. because, all moddern. There are so many wonderful things that are perfect for the holiday season. The Curly is too special to deserve a proper holiday makeover. Whether you’re ready to decorate or not, check out these truly beautiful areas that my team and I have created. I hope you get some ideas and inspiration. It certainly was for me 🙂
wreath | folding paper tree set | origami ornament | christmas village | “Gumdrop” velvet pillow | faux fur throw blanket | gold throw blanket | side table
Their wreaths and wreaths are solid (and very full). Two of my favorite things from their collection, and probably the ones I’ll be stealing into my home this year, are those stockings and the accordion paper tree (more on that later). All the colors blended together so well in a happy, traditional way of adjacency 🙂
our favorite new stockings

stockings Made of thick wool knit material with ocher and cream checks. This colorway pairs really well with a jewel-toned palette (it’s actually just gold, so it acts as a neutral in a way). I love our stockings, but they’re so cute and well made that I wonder if I’ll want to use them this year (dare I say they’re “on trend”)? If you want a more traditional color, we also have green/cream and red/cream.
The perfect pillow for “holidays” other than holidays

“Gumdrop” velvet pillow | wreath
all cut velvet pillows Super soft, high quality with the prettiest jewel tones, obviously we love mixing them all up (and they’re great all year round). and that 4 foot wreath It’s a killer (very hard to find in sizes this big), and will live outside in a giant picture window (no lights, but easy to string up). Interestingly, the fireplace had a large white outlet (for a future Frame TV) so I hid it with a collection of bows (not AllModern) and frankly it was very cute.
In my opinion, if it’s a faux wreath, you should dress it up with ribbons, bells, or ornaments to make it more lively (I think it’s the same with real greenery). The larger the wreath, the larger the ribbon.
good solid artificial tree

fake christmas tree | 3 tier serving tray | tree skirt
Although I love big trees (one of the reasons I moved back to Oregon), I’m pretty “tree agnostic” when it comes to what’s real or fake. You are you (we often do both, lol). But if you’re looking for a new artificial tree, This one It’s great (and gets better and better every year). This is a Scandinavian style fur, pre-lit with very warm lights. That’s wonderful. I also want to mention that if you are really interested in collecting ornaments (hello!), an artificial tree can hold a lot more heavy items 🙂

Large glass ornament (rose gold, green) | cafe latte ornament
As you know, I’m the girl in my family who loves decorating (my kids joke that “soup” and “decorating” are my two biggest hobbies, and that’s hilariously true). I chose something really beautiful for this tree. glass beads It reflects light very nicely (and you always want a large round reflective shape to offset more eclectic handmade ornaments, IMHO). Small “cafe latte” It comes in a very pretty blush/ivory tone and hangs with wire (so it stays in place).

Large glass ornament (gray/purple, blue)
Huge and Superior Lighted Garland

9ft lighted garland | cream/black dining chair | green head chair
this garland I hung three of them on a classic drape because they are very girthy and each are about 9 feet long. These are pre-lights, LEDs, and warm lights, and they’re interconnected so you don’t have to think about them once you fire them up. Just plug one end in and you’ll have warm vibes all month long. These are also on our living room list. The scale of the garland is huge and perfect for really large windows.
easiest table centerpieces

what i like these accordion paper trees It’s a long list:
- We style them ourselves by combining different heights, shapes, and colors so that they look great in any arrangement.
- It can be placed on any surface in any room. Mantels, kitchen shelves, bathrooms, coffee tables – it looks great wherever you put it (we’ll prove it today)
- It can be folded flat and attached using magnets. It is very easy to store and assemble, but does not take up much space.
- Since it comes in a set, you don’t have to think about the right combination of colors and sizes.
- They play with light and shadow in such a beautiful way and have so much texture and depth.

red tableware set | wine glass | napkin | placemat
I also want to say it out loud This dark red place setting – It has a great tone and finish for those who are looking for a simple yet impactful “holiday plate”. Christmas Eve lunch is a meal I host. Let’s bring these out.

taper candle | wooden candlestick holder | green glass flute
candlestick holder It’s also perfect all year round. White oak, which has a very simple shape, can be used without any problems at any time of the year.

green head chair | cream/black dining chair
If you’re looking for a new dining chair this season, we love what we’ve picked here. two people green end chair rotating Very raw and warm (a big hit with kids), and armchair It’s solid, has a large scale, and has very clean lines.

lit wreath | a pair of vases | colorful stockings | chrome lamp
This 3-foot pre-lit wreath It turned out great (warm white lights, plugged in) and decorated with lots of little velvet ribbons that we made. those knit stockings Very very good.

There she is 🙂 Not Martha, but she certainly seems ready to host here. I thought this whole space turned out to be very festive, fresh and fun (yet traditional enough and transitional enough for many styles).

felt garland | green glass flute | blue tableware set | pink platter | napkin
I want to shout out the beauty of the texture. trees It’s that the light blends well with all the paper folds. Here I used some felt garlands (also great for trees) to decorate the shelves. These new stackable blue platescan be played very well.

Lighted fake skinny tree | cream/black dining chair
We continued to move around Kali. Because it’s so beautiful (shout out loud) Max Humphrey to design it). Highlights of this small area thin treeThis is obviously best suited for small spaces. I styled it further velvet pillow, wreathand treesjust to show the different combinations.

It was a super fun shoot with my team styling beautiful and festive pieces from AllModern in the perfect location. Big kudos to Gretchen for the great job she did in creating this piece, and to Caitlin for taking these great photos. We had so much fun styling, listening to holiday music, and spending the night in our own suite. In the evening, we drank martinis and watched Amanda Knox’s Twisted Tale (not ready for Christmas movies yet) while we wrapped all our “presents”. thank you, all modern Thank you to the sponsors of this post and project. I hope you all enjoyed it and got some new ideas and inspiration. xx
