Don’t miss our list of things not to buy at ALDI.

{Pass! Wondering why I love ALDI so much? Read this post to find out why I think everyone should shop at ALDI to save money. }

You all know how much I love ALDI. I mean, how can you not love this store that has saved us thousands of dollars over the years?

I get asked a lot about what to buy at ALDI, so I thought it was time to put together an article about my 25 favorite things to buy at ALDI. (Note: These are in no particular order.)

jar of salsa with label "Casa Mamita Chunky Salsa Mild" Stacked in yellow boxes with price tags attached "2.45".

1. Salsa

We love Pace Picante sauce, but we’ve bought countless jars of ALDI salsa over the years and find it delicious, especially at regular price.

blue bag with label "Clancy's Restaurant Style Tortilla Chips" They are stacked on shelves.

2. Tortilla chips

I can’t tell the slightest difference between ALDI’s tortilla chips and other stores’ brands, or even the brand names of tortilla chips. I also love that the regular price is $1.95.

A cardboard display box filled with bags of chocolate chips.

3. Chocolate chips

We have been buying chocolate chips at ALDI for years and they are so delicious. I can’t tell the difference between them and Nestlé’s chocolate chips…well, other than the regular price of $3.75!

bottle shelves with labels "Simply Nature Organic Coconut Oil" With price tag reading "4.99" The barcode will appear in the display box.

4. Coconut oil

A few years ago, ALDI started carrying organic products, and I started to love ALDI even more! The prices for coconut oil are much better than the prices you pay in many other places. (Note: TJ Maxx is also a great place to find great deals on organic coconut oil – only $4.99!)

bottle of "Simply Nature Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil" It will be placed in the green box labeled . "Simply Nature Organic" has a price tag of "7.25".

5. Olive oil

ALDI offers both organic and conventional olive oil at affordable prices. (Note: TJ Maxx is also a great place to find great deals on olive oil!)

sugar bag with label "sugar" and "light brown sugar" They are stacked in cardboard boxes.

6. Sugar

We typically only buy cane sugar or raw sugar, but regular ALDI prices for all sugar products are usually well above other grocery store prices. We have been buying white sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar, and cane sugar for years and have never had a problem with any of them. The price is also less than $2, so it’s a great deal!

Shelves lined with peanut butter jars and spreads also include organic and non-GMO options, with visible price tags. "3.49" and "4.39".

7. Peanut butter

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a better deal on peanut butter than the peanut butter normally sold at ALDI. We have tried all peanut butters and usually buy natural peanut butter. It’s really delicious.

cereal box "honey crunch and oats" and "Frosted Shredded Wheat Bite Size Original" are stacked on shelves at prices of "2.09".

8. Cereal

My kids love cereal, but I don’t like the prices you often see at the grocery store. That’s why when I buy cereal, I almost always buy it at ALDI. However, ALDI’s name brand cereal is not that expensive, so you should always buy the Millville brand instead of the name brand cereal.

However, many of Millville’s cereals are priced between $2.49 and $2.79 per box. The only kind we don’t like are the knock-off Cheerios. I have yet to find a copy of Plain Cheerios that actually tastes good. But we have been buying knockoff Honey Nut Cheerios and my kids like them.

Pack of tortillas with labels "Pueblo Lindo Flower Tortilla Large Burrito 8ct Softened" They are arranged in a display with price tags below.

9. Tortilla

Remember my post about why I don’t make my own tortillas? Because… you can buy a bag for just $2.09!!

Shelf of canned tomatoes with labels "Happy Harvest Diced Tomato" A picture of a tomato and a price tag are written on the front. "0.89". These pantry essentials are often included in the list of Aldi products that are perfect for budget cooking.

10. Canned tomatoes

We have purchased almost all of ALDI’s tomato products many times over the years and have been happy with them all. Plus, the price of $0.89 is truly unbeatable.

Stack of labeled green bean cans "happy harvest cut green beans" Visible nutritional information panel, "0.75."

11. Canned green beans

ALDI’s French green beans remind me of my law school days. I ate several cans of this! At the time it was well under a dollar and one can could feed both of us.

Just for the record, I think the ALDI brand of French style green beans is better than any other brand I’ve tried.

The refrigerator case is full of gallon jugs of milk.

12. Milk

We have been purchasing our milk at ALDI for years and have had great success. I don’t know if milk purchased from different places tastes different, but I recommend the milk here. You can buy a gallon for less than $3.

Boxes of bananas with price tags in the produce section "0.49" per pound.

13. Banana

Their regular price for bananas is $0.49 per pound. This is a pretty good price. Sometimes the selection isn’t that great, but I usually buy them when they’re not very ripe and let them ripen on my countertop at home. (Also, if you take them out of the bag as soon as you get home, they will ripen more easily.)

Display fresh berries and packaged fruits in cardboard boxes.

14. Berry

I basically can’t stand paying regular grocery store prices for berries after getting the berry deals at ALDI. They go on sale several times a year, but the regular price is only $2.79. So you can still stock up and buy more for freezing.

(Note: Some stores carry the infamous fruit. ALDI in various cities where we have lived) I’ve never had this experience in stores, but sometimes they’re completely out of produce, or they’re left with a very small crop. I recommend asking when the produce will be back in stock and trying to shop that day. Also, if you dig, you’ll usually find some great containers of berries, but they might not be the ones at the top! )

Open wooden box full of bags of green grapes with labels on them "seedless grapes"

15. Grapes

My kids love grapes and ALDI regularly sells them for $1.79 per 2 pounds. bag. I find that these are usually one of the least chosen and longest lasting produce items. Grapes may just last longer, but regardless, I always buy grapes when they’re on sale.

Wide view of Aldi's produce section with large boxes of watermelons and an overhead sign.

16.Melon

During the summer, ALDI often has great deals on melons, especially cantaloupe and watermelon. I love that cantaloupe is on sale for $0.99! Sure, you’ll have to scour the trash can to find a great watermelon or cantaloupe, but you can almost always find one if you look.

Refrigerated shelves are lined with Irish butter and Countryside Creamery spreadable butter tubs in a variety of varieties, with price tags displayed.

17. Butter

I love butter. Maybe I’m a weirdo, but that’s what I think. It makes everything a lot better! 😉

So I also love that ALDI doesn’t charge an arm and a leg for butter. That way, you can generously spread it on your muffins or feel free to toast it.

Shelves are lined with packaged white bread in stacked trays.
A large box full of bread with labels on it "100% whole wheat" piled high.

18. Bread

ALDI’s bread isn’t the best on the market, but it’s great for sandwiches. We always buy the 100% whole wheat bread (only $1.95!) and the whole family loves it.

(Note: I also check out the all-day bread section at Kroger and often find whole wheat bread for about the same price as ALDI. When I find it, I buy it and put it in the freezer!)

Open display of hummus containers with labels "Park Street Deli Classic Garlic" and "Red pepper hummus."

19. Hummus

Hummus is another dish I enjoy and sometimes splurge on. I like the pine nut variety best.

A shelf lined with block cheeses including feta cheese.

20. Feta cheese

I love feta cheese on salads and it’s a special treat that I splurge on every now and then since it’s on sale at ALDI for a great price.

Refrigerated shelf with sliced cheese.

21. Block cheese, sliced cheese, shredded cheese

ALDI cheese prices have gone up in recent years (back then it was $1.39 per block!), but their regular prices are still some of the best around. A block of cheese is currently only $1.69, so the price didn’t increase much. Also, packs of sliced cheese are usually available for $1.49. My kids love it, so I sometimes splurge and buy string cheese too.

bag with label "Kirkwood All Natural Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts and Ribs" Displayed in the freezer.

22. Frozen chicken breast

I don’t buy much meat at ALDI, but when I go there, frozen chicken breast is a staple item that I always buy. You can buy a full bag for just $8.79. I don’t know how different it is from the Kroger brand, but it’s usually at least a dollar cheaper per bag.

The freezer section is filled with bags of frozen fruit.

23. Frozen fruit

We love adding frozen fruit to our smoothies. If you can’t find any other discounted fruit deals, buying bagged frozen fruit at ALDI works well. Especially since the price is quite affordable. You can buy frozen blueberries for just $3.79, frozen strawberries for $6.19, and frozen mixed berries for just $6.99.

Freezer shelf with bags of frozen vegetables such as peas and green beans in open boxes.

24. Frozen vegetables

Unless there’s a really great sale at Kroger, we usually buy all of our frozen vegetables at ALDI. Bags of frozen vegetables are still available for just $1.15 to $2.29.

Shelves lined with blue boxes with labels on them "Cheese Club Macaroni & Cheese Dinner" Comes with price tag. This easy meal is one of the best things to buy at Aldi.

25. Macaroni & Cheese

Their macaroni and cheese isn’t healthy at all and is one of the few well-processed things we buy at ALDI, but at $0.58 a box, it’s an occasional treat for the kids. And they love being able to make it themselves. I love that it doesn’t have food coloring (which we try to avoid at home).

When Jesse was in law school, he and I ate many boxes of this. So I’m very grateful for this. Because it was a meal replacement when my grocery budget was particularly low.
