One of my favorite things to do is spotlight women who have used their talents to build meaningful and flexible businesses from their homes. Today is hygge bookkeeping.
Heidi’s path has not been easy. She is a single mother who raised triplets while running her own business. But her story is full of perseverance, practical wisdom, and encouragement for any mom who’s ever wondered if it’s really possible to work from home.
Turn your calling into a career
Heidi is a bookkeeper who specializes in supporting women running small businesses. She organizes their financial records so everything is clear and accessible, and helps them align their money decisions with both work and personal goals.
“I love giving women financial security,” Heidi explains. “When we work together, it’s not just about cleaning the books; it’s about helping people build a business and a life that allows them to truly achieve their goals.”
She also guides clients in implementing the Profit First Method, a powerful approach to managing cash flow that empowers women to pay themselves first and run their businesses with intention.

Why she chose to work from home
Heidi’s “why” is very personal. She is currently a single mother of 18-year-old triplets.
“When my kids were little, I homeschooled them and still wanted to support my family,” she says. “Working from home has allowed me to do both jobs.”
What started as a way to make ends meet and provide for her children has now grown into a six-figure business. Now that her children are on their way to adulthood, Heidi’s next dream is to support her business as she travels across the United States.
face her biggest fear
Starting a business comes with its own set of challenges, but one of Heidi’s biggest hurdles was networking.
“As an introvert, I would sometimes get really anxious and sweaty at business events,” she admits. “I don’t expect it to get any easier, but I’ve learned to accept it as part of the process.”
Her advice? “The best way to overcome fear is to become comfortable in being uncomfortable.” Over the years, those handshakes and conversations opened doors she never imagined. And now, thanks to Zoom and online communities, networking has never been more accessible.
the secret of her success
When asked what has made the biggest difference in her journey, Heidi doesn’t list tools or strategies first. She points to perseverance.
“Never, never, never give up,” she says flatly. “Successful women in business are those who are determined to keep going no matter what.”
Heidi continued to grow through ups and downs, and her tenacity enabled her to build a thriving business as a solopreneur with low overheads and a steady six-figure income.

A look into Heidi’s days
Heidi’s schedule these days seems much different than how busy she was in her early days.
She typically starts her shift around 8 a.m. and finishes by early afternoon. I often take Fridays off unless a big project requires my attention, and I enjoy taking a break in the middle of the month.
This balance is intentional. Her business serves her life, not the other way around.
Advice for other moms
Heidi’s words of encouragement are heartfelt for mothers who dream of starting their own business and becoming a female entrepreneur, but feel insecure.
“Reach out to other moms who have gone before you. Don’t doubt yourself. You can do it. And if you reach out, you will find an army of women to support you.”
She also offers practical advice for those considering hiring a bookkeeper. Choose a bank that offers read-only access so your bookkeeper can securely retrieve your monthly statements. And while QuickBooks Online is her go-to tool, she cautions against using it for payroll or banking.
