How I discovered Amazon review videos
Having made 100% of my income online for over 12 years, I have no qualms about money-making opportunities. I’ve seen so many things advertised as the next best thing, so I’m always on guard.
When I first heard about people Earn money by reviewing products online as an Amazon influencermy interest was definitely piqued.
The timing was perfect too, as I had recently shut down my entire business, which was generating six-figure revenue, to take some much needed rest and try out the FIRE (Financial Independence and Retire Early) lifestyle we were striving to achieve.
I am very familiar with the Amazon platform and have used it in various ways to make money over the years, so I knew that at least this platform was trustworthy and decided to look into it further.
Deep down, I’ve always had a secret desire to be an influencer where I can get free vacations, fancy handbags, and other luxury items, but I’ve never really pursued that dream because I don’t want to expose my entire life to the internet (even more than I do now). Plus, I think only a very small percentage of people can actually make money from doing it.

Personal Hurdles
Before we even got confirmation that our request had been approved, the journey came to a screeching halt for almost a year…because three days after submitting our first video, my husband was diagnosed with leukemia.
We were quickly thrown into the world of cancer treatment and spent the next nine months bouncing between hospitals, hotels, and short periods at home (we thank God every day that the treatment worked and our son is now cancer free!).
Looking back, closing my business did have a purpose, but it wasn’t the purpose I had in mind. It gave me nine months to not have to worry about running a business or making money. It took a while, but our lives finally started to return to normal and our reliance on doctor’s visits and medications ended.

After being home again for a few months and no longer needing care, I was ready to get back to work and find a new side hustle—one that didn’t take up much time, didn’t cost a lot of money, didn’t require me to store inventory, and had the potential for passive income.
And I Amazon Influencer Program I logged back in to see if my account was still active.
I couldn’t believe it. My account was still active and I had made almost $200 without doing anything with 3 videos of 1-3 minutes each. It may not sound like much, but it proved that this system actually works and is viable.
Plus, it fit perfectly with the lifestyle I wanted to maintain: no need to be the face of a brand (all my videos are completely faceless) and no pressure to meet quotas or deadlines.

Testing the Amazon Influencer Program
I The Amazon Influencer Program was a viable business And so it was something that I wanted to pursue, and I decided to give it a go and see what would happen if I took it seriously.
Once I started uploading new videos to my creator account, my commissions started increasing immediately!
Within the next 2 months, I added 25 videos and my commission jumped to about $75/month. So I kept making videos. Over the next 2 months, I had 45 videos and was pleasantly surprised when I logged in and saw I was making over $100 in a single day.
That was a defining day for me – it proved to me that I could grow this business into a significant income, and that it wasn’t dependent on having a huge following or being the face of a brand.
My initial goal with this program was to make $500 in one month (which I eventually did).
We’re both still officially retired, so we don’t plan on making this our full-time jobs (like many do), but we’ve really enjoyed the process and it’s nice to be able to add another passive income stream to our portfolio.
How the Amazon Influencer Program Works
Now that I’ve shared my personal journey with you all, Amazon Influencer Program (AIP) actually works so you can see how easy it is to get started on your own.
Technically, the AIP program is made up of multiple parts, but for the sake of brevity in this post, we will focus entirely on the ONSITE portion of the program.
If you have any familiarity with affiliate marketing, you know that it involves finding a product you like, sharing it with your audience, and earning a commission on the sale if they purchase it.
and On-site ProgramsAmazon actually features influencer videos on product pages where customers are considering purchasing, and when someone makes a purchase after watching an influencer’s video, the influencer receives a commission of 1-5% of the purchase price.
Crazy right?!?
In other words, Amazon is putting us in front of their audience and paying us for it, which removes the biggest hurdle in affiliate/influencer marketing: finding the right audience for the product you’re promoting and getting them to pay attention to your content.
If you go to Amazon and look at almost any product page, you’ll see a section called “Video” just above the “Product Details” section.
This section may include a combination of influencer videos, customer review videos, and videos created by the brand itself.
If it’s an influencer video, you’ll see the video caption/title and the influencer’s name underneath it. You’ll know it’s an influencer video if you click on one of their videos and see “Earn Commission” right underneath their name.
In the example above, if I buy the sandals after watching this video, Liz will receive a commission on that sale. The commission will be paid to the influencer whose video was last watched because that influencer is considered to have “made the sale.”
You can also see in the first screenshot that each of these videos is less than 2 minutes long. Just think about how many of these short videos you could make in an afternoon while your kids are at school. All you need is a smartphone. Good lighting, tripodand some that you may already be using at home!
Different types of Amazon influencer videos

I’ve been building my business around my own brand for so many years now, I really wanted a job where I could be more discreet and not have to worry about whether my hair was styled (which it rarely is) or whether I had a breakout on my face.
(I know these things don’t really matter, but for me, on my low self-esteem days it makes it that much harder to put myself out there!)
There are three styles of influencer videos most commonly seen on Amazon.
- Faceless Video — These are videos that showcase the product only, and usually let you see the product in action with your own hands while they explain what’s going on.
- People in the video — Sitting/standing while holding the product and explaining/demonstrating its features.
- Studio Video — These types of videos are usually shot in several different shots and angles and have a lot of editing. A person might be standing at the desk, then we’ll have a shot of the product in action, and then they’ll appear in the video with the product.
You can create your video in the style you are most comfortable with, or you can combine all the styles as you want.
How to apply to become an Amazon Influencer
Interested? Getting Started as an Amazon InfluencerApproval to produce an on-site video requires a two-step application process.
- First, you need to be approved Amazon Influencer Connect your active social media accounts.
- Next, you will need to submit three sample videos for Amazon to review and approve for on-site commission to ensure that you know how to create the type of video they are looking for.
This process can take anywhere from a few days to a month or more, depending on the current state of your social media and how long it takes Amazon to review your video. If you have to start from scratch and create entirely new social accounts, it will take at least two weeks (or more).
If you don’t have social media, you don’t have to give up completely. You don’t have to create an account just to get approved and keep posting once your influencer account is approved.
