Starbucks’ loyalty program first launched in 2008 with a classic, humble punch card that gave you your 10th drink for free. Many of us remember the days of ordering a Frappuccino, digging into the depths of our wallets to reach for our old card, and counting down the number of visits until we could get a free drink. That was always a reason to come back. But now everything is done with the convenience of a mobile phone. Starbucks’ programs have evolved accordingly. It also made it a little more complicated, but it gave me even more reason to go back to Starbucks.

The current Starbucks Rewards program is based on “stars” and comes with multiple levels of discounts and benefits. Think free customized drinks, coffee and tea refills, and annual birthday treats. Additionally, Starbucks has partnered with Delta Air Lines, and Starbucks Rewards members can now earn Delta SkyMiles through purchases at Starbucks. In 2025, the value of the Starbucks Rewards program increases as Starbucks rolls out special 50% off discounts and BOGO offers exclusively for members.
