The clean girl aesthetic still dominates feeds. Smooth bun, barely there make-up, and an “effortless” glow. But let’s be honest: Who is it easy for?

This look relies heavily on features that don’t require much intervention. Skin that is not dealing with hyperpigmentation. Naturally flat hair. A face that fits a very narrow concept of sophistication.

So what happens to us? Overcompensation.

Layer it to achieve a “moist feeling”. Overstyle the edges for a smooth finish. Spend more time making it seem like you didn’t try. It’s very tiring and was never designed with us in mind.

Our beauty has always been more intentional. A real skin care routine that actually addresses defined brows, lip liner, and melanin-rich skin. It’s not something superfluous, it’s something specific.

And perhaps that is the change we need to embrace.

Rather than forcing an aesthetic that doesn’t fit, we redefine what effortless means to us. Because beauty should feel natural, not something you constantly adjust.

The clean girl aesthetic hasn’t failed us. It wasn’t made for us in the first place.
