Get ready, friends. Elle Woods is bringing us back!
Prime Video today announced that Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios’ long-awaited Legally Blonde prequel series Elle will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories around the world starting July 1st. Prime Video has also ordered a second season of Elle ahead of the series’ debut.
In Season 1, Elle follows Elle Woods during her high school years as we learn about her life experiences that shaped the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde movie.
“It’s been 25 years since the world first met Elle Woods, and it feels like a dream come true to share the story of how she became an unstoppable force that captivates us all,” said Reese Witherspoon. “Discovering Lexi Minnettree and watching her step into Elle’s amazing shoes was one of the most satisfying experiences of my career. The series’ themes of kindness, honesty, and believing in yourself will appeal to fans of the original film as well as new audiences alike. It’s been an incredible pleasure working with our amazing Hello Sunshine team, Amazon, and the visionary writers and directors to bring Elle’s high school life to life. We can’t wait to share Season 1 with the world. Let’s start rolling camera 2!”
“Elle captures the heart, confidence and optimism that made Elle Woods an enduring cultural icon, and offers viewers a fresh and deeply personal coming-of-age story,” said Peter Friedlander, Global Head of Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “The Season 2 order represents our belief in the creative vision and incredible team behind the series, and we look forward to viewers experiencing Elle’s journey starting in Season 1.”
Created by Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure), Elle will be co-showrun and executive produced by Kittrell and Caroline Dries. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt and Amanda Brown also serve as executive producers. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) directed the first two episodes of season 1 and also serves as executive producer.
