Tyler Perry’s latest movie strawtells the story of people passing by every day without understanding the depth of the struggle. Janiya, played powerfully by Taraji P. Henson, is the typical Tyler Perry heroine, who does her best to hold it all together while life pils up relentlessly against her. When pressure accumulates to the breaking point, Janiya is forced to stand up to what is unimaginable.
“She’s just trying to survive, she’s trying to become a great mom for her daughter. And the circumstances in her life put her in this impossible situation,” Perry shared with Netflix. “I think it relates to the feeling that so many people are in the last straw, regardless of race or gender.”
Taraji is the heartbeat of this film. She carries the emotional weight of Janiya’s journey with such grace and depth, you feel all. Her performances are raw, honest and magnetic. When she is on screen you simply can’t look away. “Every time I start writing, I see my face,” Perry added. “And with Janiya, I saw Taraji clearly from the start. From her first line, I knew it had to be her.” He sent her the script, and Taraji said, “I love it. I love it. Let’s do it.”
For the red carpet, Taraji was surprised by the bold brown gown accented with bold gold accessories. Her trimmed hair was smooth and elegant, perfectly complementing the ensemble. The Glam team nailed the absolute perfect makeup. And that open side detail of the dress? Dangerous, sexy and perfectly executed. She could see her every time she saw the stars!
